There are Mexican immigrants that sub-contract labor using illegals.How does this same law effect the contractors who use these subs? What there is no regulation and no accountabily. They are the ones who are making the big money. They just turn their backs!

Apparently the way it works is for a "LEGAL" immigrant to sub the work from a contractor. Then he goes out and hires "Illegals". It appears in this case the contractor knew he was hiring illegals and just didn't care.
I hope there was a big fine that went along with the sentence.

So long as you don't hold the major Corporations accountable nothing will be done against individuals hiring illegal immigrants whereby under cutting wages to legal citizens.

I don't know a construction project in Hampton Roads where illegal immigrants aren't working.

I don't know one landscape company that doesn't have illegal immigrants working during the summer.

which one? you're comments aren't justified without proof.

additionally, Verizon should not be held liable...they were not directly responsible. If you held them accoutable, you might as well include each Verizon customer.

I would say,no more contracting,just hire a citizen crew.

Someone must of had a grudge for that subcontractor because everywhere you look these days here in Newport News you see the illegals! I don't know why they can't find them! That is all you saw when verizon was putting in all them lines. Not only that we saw people selling these guys lunches out of their car trunks! Isn't that illegal also?

I worked for C&P Telephone co and Bell Atlantic(now Verizon)for thirty years.We had a good unionTHE COMMUNICATION WORKERS OF AMERICA.Befor good-ole Ronnie Reagon took the starch out of our sails and the strengh out of the unions this illegal worker would not have been hired because the union would have fought it and kept the company from hiring these independnt contractors.The work would have been done by Verizon union employees and there would have been no drugs bought or no one peeing in the bushes.You get what you pay for and now Verizon should be held responsable for the sub contractors they hire instead of using their own union backed employees.Tough luck verizon but you asked for it.

I understand your point on entering in the correct, legal manner. My issue is more with the people who support the "wild west rope-n-dope" round people up like animals mentality that is plaguing much of this country.
I'm a 3rd generation Italian-Irish-Czech-Croation-U krainian and all my ancestors entered through Ellis Island as well. Both my grandfathers proudly served in WWII.
My point is that when the Irish came, when the Italians came, when each successive generation of immigrants came--they were subjected to bigotry, hatred, and the like.
We have to stand up for human rights here.
Many of the people who are being deported are NOT criminals and many DO pay taxes.
It is not as simple as being LEGAL or ILLEGAL. There are various forms of papers that are somewhere in-between--work visas, student visas, travel visas, etc.
And many countries have different policies and require yearly renewal at EXHORBITANT fees!--its a racket.
Also, many people who were caught in Irving were subjected to "check-point" stops which is a Civil Rights violation.
Also, entire MALLS, apartment complexes, etc. are being scathed as if they are "hunting" people and people are being rounded up and stuffed in buses.
This HAS to stop. Let's help people FIX their papers, NOT treat them as sub-human.
