The biggest blow-up in the science community about Al Gore's "An Inconvenient Truth" was not over the 20 foot ocean rises but the images of Hurricane Katrina and the implication that global warming had a hand in it.
Scientists at the Carnegie Institution say there may be something to it.Comments

3 With the last 7 years the temperatures are on record lows. If we are getting so hot, then how come the year long averages have been going DOWN!! |

Right, certainly agree that that was terribly shoddy work in that movie to claim a 20 foot sea level rise. The best information that I have seen is that if all the ice melts the rise in sea level would be slightly in excess of 7 meters and as we all know that would be nearly 23 feet.(7 meters equals 22 feet 9 inches) |

5 The only way to stop this scam from further destroying america is assassinations. From Gore to scientists to our current government. There needs to be a massive assassination attacks to Washington DC. This is for every government official living. You cannot take the money with you when you die. So, my suggestion is to announce to the american public that all this talk of global warming is bull. For everyday there is nothing said a government official will lose thier life. americans are sick and tired of all of the filth that is going on in government. It's too bad that plane did not hit the capitol. |

AJM, most of the people who believe this global warming bunk ARE the people who believe in 'gods' that do not exist in any way, shape or form. I am an Atheist, who relies on SCIENCE, and have realize because of that science, that the sun has a lot more effect on global temperatures than humanity ever could or would. |

1 "“At this point we can’t say for sure that this is the result of global warming, but I think it is,” says Caldeira. " "there may be something to it" "it could be argued" "but if the trend continues the impact could be" These are only possibilities; they really don't know. As an experienced double-talk letter-writer, I can recognize ambiguous language when I see it. While the study is interesting, the results are not a certain fact of things to come. |

1 Sen Dan Moynihan " you are entitled to your opinion, but not to your own facts. Yet an incredible number of people make-up whatever "facts" are needed to support whatever they choose to believe." Al Gore take heed! |

2 10-20 below was occurring 2-3 times a winter lasting for 2-4 weeks at a shot. Now ... This winter we had 10-15 below for a day or two this winter. Since 1961 - The weather has increased to a magical 11 degrees warmer. The amount of snow fall has decreased to only 10 feet. My Mom tells me stories of winters with snow to the roof & having to escape the house thru the up stairs window to shovel out the main door. She also mentions 20-30 below for long periods of time. Where we used to ride snowmobiles all winter for fun, we now have 4-wheelers as it dosn't pay to keep a snowmobile. |

1 = That's an excellent point, but further, what caused the beginning and end of the multiple ice ages? My astrologer blames it on the nearest star and I believe her. |

1 I did notice the language used. It sounded like a scientist. You look at evidence, you compare it with models and come up with a hypothesis. hypothesis = best scientific guess. It's a hell of a lot more plausible than people who are politically, religiously or economically influenced making absolutist statements citing out of context evidence, making up stuff or just talking out of their bottoms. Detractors do this all of the time. They look at an article, sometimes just the title, and start with their rhetoric on the first thing that seems vulnerable to (spurious) logic. It has gotten to the point where, I can see a title and predict what half of the responses will be. I read articles on the science and technology site to see what is new out there, what scientists are working on. Not to troll for arguments on how perfect the world is as "god" made it and how we could never influence diddly. I see the same kind of BS when I look at articles on evolution, astrophysics and geophysics. |
