Tata Steel has recently instigated a study on the benefits on microwave drying coal to 7-8% moisture prior to coke batteries. Benefits included an increase in through-put, but more interesting was the increased life of the refractory and the Sulfur and Alkali reduction. The study conducted by DBAGlobal considered the Capital, operating cost and the return on investment.
