If all of the Dicks Sporting Goods stores are run like two in Columbus Ohio, one at Easton and the other at Polaris, I donÂ’t see how a profit is possible. I tried for almost an hour to contact someone in the hunting department at either store to find out if they had the items I was looking for in stock. I could not get Polaris to answer the phone at all and the Easton store tried to transfer me to the hunting department, and I was on hold for 12 minutes. I hung up. When I called back the same thing happened again. I went to Gander Mountain to buy my supplies.
This was my second and last attempt to make a purchase at the Easton Store. Last year I tried to purchase a new bow. I saw what I wanted had the cash in hand but could not get anyone in the hunting department to help. I couldnÂ’t even find anyone in the department.
I asked other associates who said they would find a person working there but again no one ever showed up. Buckeye Outdoors got my money that time. Maybe Dicks could get a new district manager to straiten the Columbus stores out and they could also make some sales thus adding to the profits ??????????

There are some crappy stores out there, but just because you get one, doesnt mean the rest of the stores are bad. Dicks has staying power because it exeeds all other sporting goods stores out there. This has been shown by acquiring Galyans and Golf Galaxy. And, you try dealing with the customers like you that come in complaining to the average associates that we dont have a certain product. We have no power on what we have in the store. If you want to complain that we dont have a product, complain to corporate, we literally have no control over what is shipped on the truck. You would want to hide in the back if you had to deal with that stuff too

I am a former Department Manager of a Dicks Sporting Goods store in CT and I have to say that Dicks is one of the worst run retail companies out there. I have been to more than one company meeting and sat in on many conference calls and all the corporate head care about are things called metrics. For instance sock to shoe, which means getting you to buy a pair of socks with every shoe purchase whether you need them or not, or extended warranties - which are their own warranty plans they try to get you to buy even though they are expensive and trust me "YOU DO NOT NEED THEM" they are useless. All they care about our numbers. The reason you can't find help when you go in a store is because they limit the amount of payroll store managers have making it impossible to have the entire store covered at one time. God forbid you go over on your payroll during a busy weekend, then you have to cut back on next weeks payroll making it even worse. But then when they get complaint from a customer they call you to find out why as if they don't already know why. Also, district manager and other high ranking members of corporate rarely work, they spend more time cruising around in their corporate cars or going out to lunch than doing any actual work. Don't take it out on the employees or managers that are there. They are getting just as screwed over as you are. If you have a complaint ask for the District Managers phone number although they will probably never call you back. Stay away from Dicks or don't complain when you get awful treatment.

Horrible customer service. We have been to the store twice and both the times we have had bad experience. One gets better service at Walmart. I worked in retail for a while and understand that it's not a fun job, but if your going to sign up to be a sales associate, do the flipping job and provide the service. I don't really think Dicks cares, but I'll go spend my money at other Sports stores.

I just called the store wanting a chin strap for my son. I was placed on hold for 15 mins. The guy who answered my call kept picking up and saying "they haven't helped yo yet". I hung up to be placed on hold again for 10 mins. The service sucks. I don't understand how they make money or keep customers!!!

I shopped at the Saratoga NY store and they refused to honor my rewards certificate on a hunting rifle. I called rewards customer service and they said that there is no such policy in place. So it was some BS by the local store manager. Done with that store, I agree that their service sucks.

I was a former employee at two different Dick's. I thought since one was small and the other big there would be a difference in how they were ran man was I wrong. Both noone answered the phone or helped customers. I only left because I was accused of stealing which I did not do. During the accusations I was told that I should have sold damaged products to customers not sent them back to the manufactor how screwed up is that?

New store in Cumming, GA. I had a shoe department salesgirl, Hillary, first snap at a fellow employee who brought out some shoeboxes, trying to help her serve the three of us needing shoes for our kids. Then when I asked a question and tried to give input, she told me I could either let her fit my son and get it right or I could do it myself and buy the wrong size. What an attitude!!! Customer Dis-service.

I have a close friend who works for Dick's at Crossgates mall in Albany and they overwork their employees to the bone. There are not 8 hour days for managers(department or otherwise), there are not ten hour days, there are 12 and sometimes fourteen hour days. This person would close the store and not get home until midnight and then be scheduled to open the next day and be there by 7 am. The store manager would even asked this person to come in on their day off for a few hours because a visit from a corporate jack ass was scheduled. Dick's sucks they don't give a crap about their people they are just warm bodies and the employees know it so why should they care about anything. Boycott Dicks's(the Wal-mart of sporting goods). All part of the EVIL Empire!!!

If you think the customer service is bad now, it will only get worse. We have several stores in our area and they have cut staff at each one, getting rid of the few knowledgeable people they employed. Positions being eliminated or replaced by bringing in new management at lower salaries.

Also have friends that worked in several locations and could not agree more with what was written by "somebody in albany NY."

They promote their big aquisitions, but at the expense of their employees.

I just bought a north face jacket at dicks for $249.99...turns out that it was mistagged and I got a different jacket than what I paid for (the jacket I have is worth $299.99)..

I tried to return the jacket to no avail. I even contacted customer support (each person who answered there said they were the manager...how many managers do they have?)

I am just going to disbute this charge with my credit card company. I was told I was going to be called back in regards with this and I never have. I finally called in and the woman accused me of trying to sell a jacket that is worth less than what I paid for. The oppossite is true.

I was shocked at the accusation and will never shop there again. How can they accuse me of doing that when the jacket is worth more than the amount I am trying to get refunded. I guess I escalated it with the highest possible leve. I have a good friend who is an attorney and he called on my behalf and now they want talk to us at all. We are told to forward all info to their legal department.

%^#$ that. I am disputing the charge, and I will get a refund. On top of that, I'm not even going to have the decency and return the jacket anyhow (their loss).

Go where the price is the cheapest, assume you will get jerked around, but have saved some money in the process! That goes for any retail store. If you want great service go to a mom and pop store and pay the extra money associated with less buyinh power.I hate to say it, but Wal Mart is tough to beat.

Dick's in Fayetteville NC is the worst ever. When twice with pick-up truck to get large expensive item. BOTH times, young punk manangers playing grab ass with the cute little hottie to pay any attention to a middle aged man with some money he WAS going to spend with them. Well, no longer will I go to this chain. This place, hopfully will not last much longer. I can shop other places with slightly higher prices but better service. I've learned my lession, you get what you pay for.

The store in Kennesaw, Ga. sucks as well. I wanted to purchase a pocket knife- the only one left was the model, which they would not discount.
I was told that the manager is a "cheap prick". My favorite part is the response to my e-mails...
A form response, anytime you e-mail customer service they don't read anything. You get a form e-mail in return. I wanted to make certain so I e mailed 3 times, put it this way Dicks sporting goods knows d __ k about sporting goods.

The reason you get crappy service is because in my store we have 3 less Managers than 3 years ago and 40% less hourly payroll with more sales, it's crazy Managers are severly stressed out trying to be salesfloor coverage, setting plannograms, putting truck away, drilling bowling balls, teching bows, sharpening skates, mounting scopes, stringing tennis racquets(and many more) and god forbid being any kind of a real Manager. District Manager doesnt care and expects same results with half the resources. Dick's Has a potential to be a great company and better to work for if Ed Stack(CEO founder) would see the truth he would be furious because this is not the kind of customer experience he and his father envisioned!

Absolutely horrendous customer service. I tried to resolve one simple issue with a golf glove because their listing is wrong and they would not talk to me they simply ignored my requests and emails and in the note that I put in with the return, they ignored that too. It is like talking to a wall.

End result, they charge me a service fee for returning something that was wrong because it is listed wrong. Instead of just making a straight change for similar item as I suggested, they go through their system for dummies that even if you are dying they will charge you the return fee and charge you for their mistake.

NEVER BUY FROM THEM AGAIN. It is like dealing with one of the old bureaucracies of the governments behind the iron curtain. THEY THINK THEIR WEBSITE RESOLVES ALL THE PROBLEMS.
