Amen.....but let's all get prepared to watch her waltz away with a token tap on the wrist. Florida's animal abuse laws - and the enforcers - suck, to put it mildly.....

It's very hard to think of how this sweet dog must have suffered. Hope this woman gets the jail time!

She most likely will get off with a slap on the wrist, considering the fact that most parents who kill or injure their own children get off easy.

Remember the mother who left her child to cook and die in her car, because she forgot to take it to daycare, and worked for the City of Ocoee? There is more outrage about this dog, than for the human child this woman killed.

Didn't she escape charges?

If the Florida laws allow you to kill your own child due to "forgetfulness", then how can they prosecute for "forgetting" an animal?

Animals are considered property- she won't get any jail time. Even though I think she should.

Maybe all the responses here will be heard- I only hope that all of you come forward in outrage the same way, the next time a child is "accidentally" killed by it's parents. Only then will we be able to possibly take back control of our out of control society.

The difference between these two stories is staggering. That mother forgot that her child was in the car. I can't possibly understand HOW she forgot her child was in the car, but she did, obviously. No mother in her right mind would intentionally kill her own child. And I stress IN HER RIGHT MIND. She will live with the guilt of killing her child every day for the rest of her life. This P.O.S. Chrisine intentionally left her dog to starve to death. She admitted that she knew what would happen to Ella and she shows no remorse. She needs to be punished!! And she needs to be made to never forget what she did. I wish that they made convicted animal abusers have to register like sex offenders so that she can never move to a new town and do this to another animal.

There will be a Rally for Ella and the Fight Against Animal Cruelty this Monday, May 19th, at 7:45AM at the 4-way stop in front of the Brevard County Courthouse in Viera!! If you support the fight against animal cruelty and want justice for Ella, then please attend! The more people, the better. The purpose of this demonstration is to show the prosecutors and judges that the citizens of Brevard County and the State of Florida support tough prosecution for all animal abusers. This is also an effort to show the County and the State of Florida as a whole that Animal Cruelty will not be tolerated, and starving an animal or killing an animal in general should be made a felony by statute- not a misdemeanor! Please join the fight against cruelty!

If you can join us at the rally, please do not block any walkways, roads, access areas, etc. Please be respectful also! No obscenities or littering, and remember, you are responsible for your own behavior. If you plan to attend, feel free to bring a sign, or just use one of ours. Be a voice for Ella!

On June 18, 2008 … the day of her hearing …… this woman needs to get a jail sentence, fined, and community work added to her sentence but if she only gets fined and probation she should spend years caring for starved and abused animals ….. feeding and caring for them and to get an education on exactly what happened to Ella and how she died and how excruciatingly painful her death was not to mention the emotion distress of being abandoned by her care giver. The hours and days she spent wondering what happened and why was this happening to her. I have cried thousands of tears for weeks just wondering how much that poor creature suffered and would have done anything to have saved her. If the laws in Florida do not have enough “teeth” in them to convict this absolute horror of a human being then we all need to do something about it. I plan to write and continue to write our state representatives until something is done.

It is a profound mystery to me how this woman is able to still live in the area unabashed. Her last known address is 1112 Peachtree Street, Cocoa Florida 32922 and apparently is/was living with a Steven Kyle. I believe her birth date is 6/1/1978. If Kyle was living with her before the water was turned off forcing them to move and abandon Ella (because the boyfriend didn’t like her) ..... then more than likely poor Ella spent most of her days when she was fed in the crate she died in. I for one hate crates. I believe they are over used and I've known about countless animals that have spent more than 80% of their lives in crates. They are a convenient restraint for an animal and are used in a lot of cases in lieu of proper training. If you Google Earth the address the yard is not fenced and is in an industrial area and appears to have a number of trees in the yard. There’s no way to have contained her to the yard and her cries for help may have gone unheard. How a human being could do this to an animal is beyond me. It was an intentional act to starve the animal when there were countless other solutions. She picked the worst for Ella to suffer.

I have passed the "rally info" along to the local Humane Society, the SPCA, to a rescue group in Orlando, and to a guy who holds "Rescue Roundups" in Brevard County.....
As for Abrams' last known address (where she lived with her "boyfriend"): it was two blocks from me but, after this poop hit the fan, she hasn't been seen there since. As for her former address (where Ella died), Abrams could've still let that dog loose in the house....please don't get me started again on thinking about how much Ella suffered.....I, too, have cried many tears but, at least, now we know Ella is out of her misery. Small comfort, I know...
Regarding the laws in FL having no teeth: you said it, sister.....however, it also depends on how prosecutors "interpret" the laws. I.E., we have a huge bunch of useless, gutless wonders when it comes to animal abuse. In my 40+ years here, I've never heard of one person - not one - being seriously taken to task for such crimes.
Please continue to write the SAO, the state legislators, etc.....I am, too.

What in God's name does this example have to do with someone intentionally locking up a dog - who had no chance of survivial - and then deliberately leaving her to starve to death????? Stay on point, would ya?

"Crating" a dog is not cruel at all, I wish that I had known about that training method when I was young. The best behaved and well adjusted dogs I had were crate trained and they spent more time in them with the door opened than shut, it gives them a sense of security.

I find this whole thread to be very sad,,, so many people who really don't seem to understand that animals don't think or feel as humans do,, who are more comfortable wanting to hurt another human being than to actually do anything postitive for animals.

It is a sad society that will get worked up more over an animal than for any of the myriad of atrocities that happen to humans.
