Ten charged in Lowell gang raids; weapons, drugs, cash seized

I would tend to think that just like any other investigation process the police are not just running up on these people unless they have something right in front of them. I am sure they want to watch and see whats going on they have a job to do and they have to be sure they got there case together or it will not matter in court. I am far from a cop but I would watch and gather all the info I could and build a great case so hopefully they don't walk out of court. I would call it good police work.

What I don't undersand is thatI know the guy who was busted for the biggest drug dealer in the history of New England. He got caught. Those with Asian and Spanish surnames probably are second or third generation Americans who, much to the disgust of their parents, have adopted American gangsta ways while rebelling against the rich traditions of their families. Those who want the "illegals" deported may not get much glee from here.
Lowell Police are doing their job and deserve credit for developing a case that takes months to put together. I know if federal charges are proven you will not see the key people back on the streets for years. Bail will not be available as easily as it is in state cases.
Yes the violent crimes will continue and the thugs on the street will rattle their chains. More need to be and will be taken down.
This will continue until everyone realizes it's not just up to the police to change the city.
While the police do their jobs Lowell needs to start again with those comprehensive education and prevention programs that were in the schools years ago but were cut when the money got tight.
People will say it's too expensive. I say Lowell cannot afford not to do this. Putting money only into the enforcement side and ignoring prevention is cleaning up after accidents.
Strong after school, recreation and teen job opportunities need to be available to divert kids away from pitfalls. Good kids and their deeds need more visibility from the media with the positive side of the community held up as examples for younger kids.
Ignorance breeds fear and fear allows crime to continue.
People need to find out who their neighbors are again, reach out to them and join to make the city safe neighborhood by neighborhood. You all have a common goal. You can't reach it through ignorance and blaming.

You are so right here. The police can not do all this alone and we as a community need to open our our eyes and start talking about what we see. We can have an active role in this and we should. This is our home and why do we let a bunch of thugs take it over and terrorize our community?
