GOP Congressman Writes Bill To Block Full-Body Scanners

There are 236 comments on the www.npr.org story from Jan 8, 2010, titled GOP Congressman Writes Bill To Block Full-Body Scanners. In it, www.npr.org reports that:

Jason Chaffetz is a Republican congressman from Utah who co-authored a bill to block wider use of whole-body scans. He helped write the legislation after seeing other types of scans that he says were more anatomically revealing.

"Do we really need to take nude pictures of Grandma or my 8-year-old daughter in order to be able to secure an airplane?" Chaffetz says. "I have a hard time with that."

President Obama's approval rating on handling health care is at an all-time low, according to a new CBS News poll, something that is helping to drag down his overall approval rating.

Just 36 percent of Americans approve of Mr. Obama's handling of health care, according to the poll, conducted from Jan. 6 – 10. Fifty-four percent disapprove. In December of last year, 42 percent of Americans approved of the president’s handling of health care, and 47 percent approved in October.

Never got beaten up, not once. Yes, you should report "your friend" the illegal alien. WTF? You're a TRAITOR to AMERICA and a good friend to a criminal. You are AIDING AND ABETTING A CRIMINAL, like all the businesses that hire illegals.
You are hopelessly delusional and naive, too boot. A MASTER OF OBFUSCATING, DEFLECTION AND CIRCULAR, NON-LOGICAL THOUGHT.(I thought you might appreciate the caps, since you display such a fondness for them.)

The business through which my friend has been wiring money came under federal investigation and federal indictment. The owners of this business are legal immigrants who made $10 million in illegal money transfers. They overcharged everyone who made transfers, exploiting their own countrymen, and they are now in prison.

The feds have the records. They could go after every single person who ever transferred money...and they haven't done a damned thing.

My friends wife worked for a company in Danbury that employed 18 illegal aliens to run their production machinery. Again, these people were exploited in the worst way, hired and controlled by a foreman who was Hispanic himself. She did report the company to the feds, and as Office Manager, she had all the specifics that are needed. Guess what happened? Nothing.

Another woman I know did the same thing, working for a small, family owned business, also in Danbury. This particular business gets awarded all the city contracts for the specific service they provide. Maybe by now, you're starting to get the gist. Nobody cares, nobody pursues these cases.

The massive illegal alien problem here in the U.S. has occurred precisely because the government has been turning a blind eye and failing to uphold the laws that are in place. There's plenty of blame to go around. The government. The Social Security Administration, who is able to identify nearly every illegally used SS#. Greedy employers who exploit these people to fatten their bottom line. And the illegals themselves. They're not innocent, ignorant children. The knowingly and willingly break law after law to fatten their bottom line.

White House credits stimulus with up to 2M jobs BUT HIDES THE FACT THE WHITE HOUSE CHANGED LAST MONTH THE WAY JOBS WERE COUNTED TO; “ANY JOB THAT IS BEING PAID FROM STIMULAS MONEY IS A NEW JOB EVEN IF IT’S BEEN THERE FOR YEARS……………..MORE FRAUD FROM THE KING OF FRAUD.

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama is trumpeting a new White House estimate that his top economist calls "stunning": His stimulus plan has already created or saved up to 2 million jobs.

However, the administration's method of counting jobs has been controversial, and starting with fourth-quarter figures, it's adopting a new one — giving up trying to determine if a job has been created or saved, and reporting only that it's funded by the stimulus.

The change was ordered quietly last month in a memo to federal agencies.

The new rules follow analyses by The Associated Press and others that uncovered flaws that overstated the actual job numbers by thousands.

Sorry, but we do need a fence. Right now, anyone can simply walk across the southern border and it's a huge national security risk.

My solution would be to fine the holy hell out of any employer who hires illegal aliens. Make the fines so detrimental that it's simply not worth the risk. Of course, this would have to be followed up with the government actually doing their jobs and going after these employers. I'm not holding my breath.

This would weed out the people who come here temporarily, just to make money that they send home.

Danbury, Ct., which is my neighboring city, had the dubious distinction of having the highest rate of illegals per capita for a while. I've been working around these people for over a decade, all over south eastern Ct. Very few of the men I've met have any intention of staying here. They live in rooms that they share with other men, live very frugal lives and send their income home. Many haves wives and families and I've met a few who couldn't stand being away from them and stayed only a few months. Others who had a goal (buying a home or a certain monetary amount) achieved it and left. Others (like my Brazilian friend) whose wife got tired of waiting for him and divorced him in his absence.
They're taking jobs from taxpayers, taking the money out of our economy and sending it elsewhere. We don't need them. Get rid of them, then we can start to figure out what to do about the people who want to come-and stay here.

This would work, because since the construction boom crashed, illegals have been leaving Danbury in droves because there's no more work. If they knew they couldn't find any work, they wouldn't pay coyotes thousands of dollars to sneak them into the country. I'm constantly amazed at how much money some of these guys paid to get here.

I don't think there's a politician out there who will touch this with a ten foot pole. Most of them are afraid of opening their traps, because all they can think of is the "latino vote".

What do you think would work?

The funny thing is, Politicians are concerned about the latin vote BUT illegals cannot vote and illegals are taking jobs away from the legal latin immigrants. So one would think such a law would actually win one the latin vote.

No scanners necessary. Obumble is lying if his lips are moving, a trait common to all politicians.

I agree with everything you typed, MOSTLY the second paragraph. However, most of the fence ideas are costly and not very practical. We should start by going after the employers of illegals, fining/imprisoning them. Like MOST Americans, I'm not against immigrants, only illegal immigrants. As a friend, you should convince your friend who is here illegally to leave and return LEGALLY. You should explain to him that, AS AN AMERICAN, you have a duty to report him, if he chooses to continue to violate our laws. If he chooses to stay and you don't report him, you are contributing to the problem, aiding and abetting a criminal. I don't blame his wife for divorcing him. Her husband became a criminal when he decided to overstay his visit, ILLEGALLY. Would you stay with your spouse, if your spouse became a criminal and wouldn't stop? Would you feel differently if the man were marrying to your Brazilian daughter?

My friend doesn't want to leave and come back legally. As I said, we've discussed this subject quite often. If they caught him, he wouldn't mind having to leave.

As I pointed out in another post, reporting these folks does no good. From a personal point of view, I simply don't rat out my friends...at least I've never had one commit a crime so horrific that I felt I had to.

I don't blame his wife for leaving him, either. His original visa was for one year. He wanted college money for his kids. He spoke English before he came here, which gave him a big advantage concerning his ability to make money. Plumbers are expensive, but even in this downturn, he works constantly. Last time I asked him, which was last year, he's sent home over $400,000 since 1999.

He's hooked on the money, plain and simple. When he's over my house and we're having a few beers, he goes on and on about how great life's going to be, because once he's back in Brazil, he's a very wealthy man who will never have to work again. But I digress.

Illegals are reported constantly. The only time authorities will do anything is if a violent crime has been committed...or over in Danbury last year, they actually tried to deport a family who had been here nine years...legally, trying to get citizenship. Both parents had been working-legally-and paying taxes and doing everything above board, but had been getting jerked around by their Hispanic lawyer. These are the people we want here. I, like you, support legal immigration.

On the other hand, ICE rounded up thirteen illegal day laborers in a sting operation in Danbury, and some big union, the ACLU and a group of lawyers, along with a pro-immigration group, did everything they could to protect these illegal immigrants and stop the authorities from deporting them. The case got tied up in the courts forever on the basis of 'racial profiling'.

It's like the inmates are running the asylum. Even if I was inclined to report my friend, I promise you nothing would come of it.
