The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is currently deciding whether or not to approve an application by Dow Chemical for its controversial genetically engineered (GE) corn variety that is resistant to the highly toxic herbicide 2,4-D, one of the main ingredients in Agent Orange.
Please stop taking the advice of Monsanto, Dow, Cargill they are poisoning the earth and the humans that reside therein.
The “faster, bigger, cheaper” approach to food production is unsustainable and contributing to the destruction of our planet and your health.
It is time to shift our food paradigm toward one that is more focused on natural, organic and independent community farms that practice polyculture, as opposed to monoculture.
Monoculture agricultural practices damage the soil, increase dependence on chemical fertilizers and pesticides, encourage the use of GMOs, and contribute to antibiotic resistant bacterial strains.
The argument that small independent farms cost more to operate and are less profitable is a myth that has been disproven by science. What about the added cost to peoples health? Look what happened to Vietnam and birth defects that they are still dealing with.
Government subsidizes corn growers but not veggie growers, and massive food production monopolies like ADM and Cargill control the food chain from seed to plate, essentially holding farmers captive
My friends with MS need organic produce to keep the symptoms from overtaking their lives. This is also about how sick these pesticide laden foods are making us. There are massive GMO crop failures, super-bugs, super-weeds, the need to put more and more caustic pesticides on the food that people eat; has your Secretary of Agriculture told you about that. The burgers you eat could be laden with Agent Orange. See website: http://civileats.com/2012/02/22/agent-orange-...
You all must have families how can you allow this poison and these bad land practices? It is about our health and prevention of illness.
Sincerely,
Alonna Farrar
