I was sitting at Fort Lauderdale Beach today and it was plainly obvious to me why I live down here and will continue to live down here: it's January 3rd and I am sitting on the beach in shorts. I spent Xmas in Seattle and to even go outside I needed 3 layers of clothes on, and on top of all that it was gray. I miss out on a lot of money in my career to avoid the snow, and I am well aware of it.

Too much congestion for comfort here. The stress living here does not compensate for the weather. People are moving to less stressful, less restrictive places to live, like SC, Ga. etc.etc.

Bingo! The census in 2010 will tell the story the liberal media is afraid to report on now! This is not a racist comment, but a demographic observation. Florida is not the same place it was 15 years ago, and certainly not the same place it was 20-30 years ago! The reasons people came to Florida in the past are now the same reasons why they are moving to Georgia, South and North Carolina, and Tennessee. Don't let the press pull the mango, plantain, or sugar cane over your eyes!

People are moving out because it's turned a total sh*t hole with no morals, no integrity and their children are growing up in a morally corrupt area of the country.

Unless they mention Haitians which are obviously black they are not being racist. Illegal immigrants come from all countries around the world and consist of all 3 races. If you think Hispanic is a race then you really need to go back to school. You ignorance is showing. Hispanics are white people from Spain. Some of them mixed with blacks or natives which does not make then a specific race of their own. They are either black (African), Mongoliod (native and Asians) or white (caucasian).

South Florida is a complete hole. A horrible, boring, ugly, rundown mess. No, I did not choose to live here and will leave asap. The climate is boring. I am sick of these New Yorkers. I can't even look at a palm tree and forget a stucco building. I want to see snow, a brick building, and oak trees. I'm glad some fools like this place so I can pawn off my home to one of those dopes.

"Antonio Villamil, a Coral Gables business consultant and dean of the business school at St. Thomas University, said a major reason people are leaving is the cost of living, which is increasing here by 5 percent a year, compared with a national average of 3 percent."

The cost of living increase isnít the same for everyone Ė not by a long shot. The disparity in property taxes is enormous and 5 million renters, recent buyers, and snow birds take the biggest hit. How sweet is it to pay 75 cents a gallon for gas when others paid not $4, but $8 just so you could have it for 75 cents? Thatís pretty much whatís going on with property taxes in Florida. The Save Our Homes program is a huge tax shift from one group to another.

A hypothetical owner #1 buys a house in 1994 for 100K. He gets a 50K homestead exemption so his property is taxed on only 50K. The MOST the assessment can go up is 3% a year. Owner #2 buys the same house next door in 2009 for 250K, gets 50K homestead and pays tax on 200K. Thatís 4 times the tax or about 3 thousand a year. 250K is a pretty average house in SFL. Sweet deal for the chosen ones who live here nearly tax free.

I moved to Northeast, Mississippi from Western Broward county seven years ago and my Wife and I only wonder why we did not move sooner.
Tupelo, Ms. has everything you want and everything you do not want.
I bought a 2100 Sq. foot home with a brand new three car detached garage on 8 acres for $83,000.
I have a job earning almost $30 Hr. and my Wife is almost done with her RN degree. When She is finished (Soon) she will earn between $21 Hr to $29 Hr to start at a Hospital that is the largest rural hospital in the country (Northeast Mississippi Medical Center) It is a beautiful facility without all of the Illegals screaming for Emergency medical services. My Wife is from South America and when we first visited here years ago she said "So, this is what America is like" LOL
There are others here from Other latin countries and for some reason they do not act anything like i saw in South Florida.
As far as Winter we were in our Sixties for highs the last several days and it really has been great weather lately. Also, there are no Hurricanes this close to the Tenn. border. I really like living in what alot here call "The best kept secret"
The Appalachian Foot hills.
South Florida is a lost cause and for some reason our Government is allowing full scale invasion of criminal illegals into this country.
The USA in the early days would only accept people from certain countries and with proven skills before they could entire Ellis Island and other entry points on the West Coast.
What happened to our immagration services or at leas i use the term "Services" lightly.
Goodluck, South Florida really was a nice place at one time.

What would be really interesting to know is what % of retiring police officers choose to saty in So Fla.

I'd be willing to bet the number leaving is staggering.

What was the number of whites that left in either '07 or '08? 45K I think? Anything over 1k is alarming.

That will tell you all you want to know....end of story.

From Dillard "High" school in 2008.
No charges, no idea where they went and could care less...
Lost to the "If it's free it's for me neighborhoods" of So Fla. If it were a white neighborhood they'd pursue it for sure.

OK, now I'm truly perplexed?

Last time I checked there was hundreds of miles of florida coast, and most of the penisula is similiar weather. and much much prettier beaches then ground-glass fake sand, over-developed, hobo-roaming, elbow-room slumming butt-ugly ftlaud beach

you want amazing beaches you go to Eleuthera. any questions?
