I am a worker at the plastech's Byesville plant and I am starting this discussion to try to find out any info about what is really going on with the buyers.I know that one will shut us down and the other will keep us open.that all they will tell us even though I think there's more to it.
So if there is anyone with info about what is really going on it would be appreciated. Thank You.

I am a former Plastech worker. We were not given any information until the plant closed.Even now the only info I get is on-line and on these forums. They dropped the bomb on us and two weeks later, done.I hope that you folks get a better deal than we did. Good luck to all of you.

These same rumours were going around our plant.Magna,Flex-n-gate,A.B.pl asman were some of the names that were getting thrown around. The same as you we were told one would keep us open the other would close us down.It all turned out to be rumour. If it's on paper believe it.Anything else is just trash. If you got termination papers then you can count on that.

I guess that the company is deciding to auction off the business after the court shot down two 60 million plus offers towards the company. The news says that the court will decide Friday. I do know that in our plant they gave us our union cards and a union rule book, plus a "60" day termination letter.on top of that I was in my H.R. office to ask a question and she had all of our files out and looked as if they were being boxed up.To the leamington worker, alot of us in there are wondering that if it does close and we are terminated will we recieve any type of severence pay? Or did you get that? And I appreciate the info, since as you said the company has always had a dirty way of not letting the employees know anyhing until it happens.Thank you!!

Plastech is not paying our severance. I believe Chrysler is paying all of it.(I did hear once that chrysler, gm and ford's were paying, but not sure if all 3 or just chrysler is paying). BUT because we were not given 12 weeks notice of a large layoff, we are entitled to in lieu of pay, and we were told we would not be receiving that, but the union is taking legal action against that decision, because it is Ontario law that we be paid that. Vacation pay owing will also be paid. Our pension at present is froze, but we were told we will be receiving that.

We had heard that our unused vacation time would be paid.I haven't found anything yet today about wheter or not the court ruled for auction. Hopefully your union is better than ours because the only thing ours is good at is taking dues out of our check and letting the company do whatever they want. We have a local union seperate from our national and it's a joke.the only way to tell that we have a union there is the fact that we go by senority.

We heard in a meeting today that it does look good for us. And that GM is backing Magna for the deal. Also today magna was in our plant all day measuring, taking pictures and video taping what we do on every part. Alot of people we're pissed off about the whole thing and that our union let it happen.

They were in my facility a few weeks ago doing the same. They got detailed photos of all the paint tooling (bucks). Not a lot of info up here other than have another walk through next week. The union could not do anything about it. They are a interested party.

Well that was going to be another question to the Leamington workers. Did you have Magna or Flexngate come to the facility to look around before you went out? I guess today Magna was at our facility as well taking pics and videotaping molds. But as we were told today after we had it figured out that if Magna buys then all they want is the tooling and the plant will definately be shut down. I may be wrong but its seems that if GM was really concerned and wanted it to run then they would step in.The same way they did with AAM. if they are siding with Magna thats not good cause GM if you remember filed in court to try to get tooling back. if Gm is on Magnas side its only that way so that Gm can retrieve their tooling free and clear. But I may be wrong and something good may come out of this.

Yes we had both Magna and Flex n Gate at our facility. We heard rumours that they were either going to buy our plant, or just the contracts. I believe I did hear that Magna got some of our contracts.

well it was approved by the court to go ahead with the auction.I myself suspect that there is something going on with Magna at our plant. We are already pulling some of our molds and we are loosing a job we got a few months ago.theres talk about chrysler pulling out also.I don't know ..I guess its obvious that its over, but what burns me is the fact that the people in the "Office" know more than we do and none of them have the heart to tell you anything. while they get a head start and leave us with our hands in our pockets.

More than likely Magna will get the bulk of the Chrysler work. Another company Cadence will get the GM and if Bluewater pulles out of there mess they will get the Ford work. But that is all rumors up here. It suck that some of us have given so much during the hard times and will have to start all over.

Plastech to close 2 more plants

----------

----------

Troubled supplier Plastech Engineered Products Inc. is continuing its planned exit from the exterior auto plastics business, announcing the pending closure of two more plants.

The two latest plants slated to close cover nearly 500 jobs, with 416 employees in Byesville, Ohio, and 88 in Moraine, Ohio, according to notices filed with the state of Ohio.

Both plants are set to shut down within 14 days of July 13. The two sites bring the number of planned Plastech plant closures up to six in North America.

The Dearborn-based auto supplier has been operating under Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection since February. It has told the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Detroit that it will either sell or shut down its exterior business line. Johnson Controls Inc. of Plymouth has proposed a deal to buy Plastech’s interior parts plants
