Advance Auto Parts have been steadily laying off employees at nearly every level. Recently, they told the 14 employees in the Electronic Parts Catalog (EPC) Dept. they were all going to be laid off but there were 11 new jobs (doing the tasks of the EPC Dept.) they could apply for. What kind of damn company is this to pit 14 fellow co-workers against each other to apply for 11 jobs? With the dirty way Advance Auto Parts has decided to treat their employees over the past 6+ years or so, I bet they don't hire any of the existing EPC Dept. employees. They will probably say they weren't qualified for the "new" position even though every member of the EPC Dept. holds an ASE certification and have been doing the job for many, many years, some over 20 years. It is a painful shame a company that once had a family feel is now nothing more than a cold corporation who cares nothing for its employees and only cares about the stock holders. It's gotten a lot worse since Darren Jackson was made CEO. Darren "Jack-Off" doesn't have to face his own carnage with his cushy distance in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

I am a part time employee with Advance, no benefits and i cant afford health insurance. I took off one day and was told I had to have a Dr.s note before I could come back to work. They pay me $8.00 and hour a Doctor will most likely charge me three or four days pay!! Is this really an Advance policy for a part time employee with no benefits??

I have been with Advance for 11 years now and the day they went public with the stock, I said that was the dumbest thing this company could do. They cut out areas in the company that made it different and more exciting than the competition. Now it seems like that all they are concerned about is increase in the stock. Oh yeah, publicly, they care about the part-time guy making $7/hr. but in reality, they couldn't care less about who they hire. At the store I work at, they just moved a double award winning GM from our store to another store and hired a person off the street that can barely put gas in his own car. (yet I bet this guy can tell you about every Disney character since he used to manage a video store.) Now they moved the assistant manager to another store. At least she knows what she is doing and can run circles around most guys. I am not sure I want to even work for the company any more. I really don't need the money, I only worked there because I enjoyed it and thought it was fun. We used to be a family and now it has just become another job.

AH, SO THE SUFFOLK VA. STORE/HOLLAND RD., ISN'T THE ONLY ONE THAT ABUSES, TAKES ADVANCE AUTO OF, OF SCREWS THEIR EMPLOYEES! YOU KNOW ITS SAD WHEN AN EMPLOYEE GETS THE STORE OUT OF HOT WATER ON AN INSPECTION AND DOESN'T GET CREDIT FOR IT. AS A MATTER OF FACT THEY WERE TOLD INSTEAD OF CLOCKING IN ON TIME TO SIT IN THEIR CAR UNTIL THE BIG GUYS LEFT, SO SHE ,(MANAGER)COULD TAKE THE CREDIT. THIS EMPLOYEE BUST THEIR BUTT THE NIGHT BEFORE ON PLAN-A-GRAMS.NO ONE ELSE COULD OR WOULD DO. SAME EMPLOYEE GETS TOLD THEY CAN'T HAVE LUNCH HOUR BECUASE YOU CAN'T LEAVE ONE PERSON IN THE STORE,(WELL DIDN'T THE MGR. KNOW THIS WHEN SCHUDULING?)THE SAME EMPLOYEE KNOWS MORE ABOUT MECHANICS AND PARTS THAN ANYONE IN THE STORE, BUT GETS OVER LOOKED FOR PROMOTIONS AND RASIES. THEY CONTINUE TO PAY THE PREGNANT BLACK GIRL, THAT DOESN'T DO ANYTHING ANYWAY,NOW OR BEFORE,SHE SHOULD HAVE BEEN GONE ALONG TIME AGO BECUASE SHE'S RUDE ANYWAY! BUT TIGHT WITH MGR! JUST LIKE THE MGR. IS TIGHT )ON THE SIDE) WITH MARCO. THAT IS WHY NOTHING GETS ADDRESS PROPERLY OR FAIRLEY. IF THE BIG GUYS WOULD JUST POP UP IN THE EVENINGS UN-ANNOUNCED THEY WOULD SEE THE MGR IS NEVER THERE BUT ON THE CLOCK, HAVING EMPLOYEES PUNCH HER OUT AT CLOSING. SHE BREAKS ALL THE RULES TO FIT HER LIKING AND NOBODY CAN DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. THE MAJARIOTY OF EMPLOYEES IN THIS STORE ARE UNHAPPY AND UNFAIRLY TREATED BUT NEED THEOR JOBS, SO THEY JUST HOLD IT IN, BECUASE THEY NO ITS USELESS TO GO TO THE DISTRICT, REGIONAL OR HR , SINCE THE MGR HAS THEM IN HER POCKET SO TO SPEAK..ALL TIGHT NIT LITTLE CIRCLE. I PERSONALLY THINK THE PRESIDENT SHOULD INVESTIGATE ALL THE STORES AND GET NEW MANAGERS! AND GIVE CREDIT AND RAISES WHERE THEIR DUE TO THE HONEST AND LOYAL EMPLOYEES. NOT THE THIEVES, LIERS,WHO COVER THEIR BUTTS, AND THE ONES THAT SCREW THE BIG WIGS TO STAY IN GOOD. I HAVE BEEN A CUSTOMER FOR OVER 15 YRS AND I KNOW EVERYBODY AND EVERYTHINGTHAT GOES ON IN THIS STORE....ITS SAD!..SOOOOOOOOOOO...THE QUESTION REMAINS TO WHOM EVR HAS THE ANSWER,..(BECAUSE YOU KNOW THE CEO, PRESIDENT, OWNER , WHATEVER ISN'T READING THESE COMMENT LINES AND DON'T CARE TO MAKE A CHANGE FOR THE EMPLOYEES, MUST LESS THEIR CUSTOMERS...WHAT DO YOU DO?, WHO DO YOU GO TO? HOW DO YOU COMPLAIN AND NOT GET FIRED? AND MOST OF ALL, WHATS UP WITH COMPANY POLICY ANY MORE?

aap used to be a good, er great place to work back in the 90's. Alot of people left or were pushed aside from the top, alot of asswholes came in and forced a bunch of people out. In evansville, IN we had a 27 year old asswhipe named ernie lease who thought he was "the man". Needless to say ernie will never be a man and I am sure I can whip up about 7 men that would beat the crap out of him if he is ever caught out... This idiot would harrass you if you had some weeds by your dumpster, well I never once had a customer to care about any weeds, all they wanted was a good part at a good price.. it is such a shame that what used to be a great company to work for is now and has been since around 2004 a crappy place to work...

Mr. Jackson,
Please take this to heart. I worked for Advance for nearly seven years. Within that time, I received a divisional "Store Manager of the Year" award 3 times... I currently have 13 "Store of the Quarter" plaques on my wall. How is it that when the FIRST time a new DM visits my store, my employment is TERMINATED with the exact quote "Based off of your past performance, I have to terminate you". When I asked "What are you talking about?" I was told " I can't discuss that with you... You need to leave the premises right now". Now here's the real kick in the pants...SINCE then,, I have become the service manager of a local car lot... Please check your records... I have spent over $100,000 with Advance since my termination (between store 6771 and 8074) 1 and 1/2 years ago,,,, and have YET to get a single THANK YOU from the DM or RM. I guess I'm not worth anything in your company's eyes.. Advance only gets approximately 1/3 of my business right now, however, if I don't AT LEAST get a Thank You from one of these 2 people, with a REAL explanation of why I was terminated, I will take "the little I spend" with your company and spend it with a company that cares about their customers and team members.

Dear Mr Jackson, one of your general managers Darryl Thomas, has some serious problems, his management skills have something to be desire and the way he treats his employees in front of customers, it is horrible I don't see how can you be proud of a company that has no respect for their own employees, I ask for the number for human resourses and the employee inform me the the store does not have the number, that they did not have it posted and didn't know where to get it with out getting in trouble with Mr. Thomas and possibly be fire for asking......I have been a customer of this store for a very long time and I have never seen this type of treatment, I do hope you can help correct this situation.....Thanks for your attention

I am employeed with advance auto parts for 7 years now. I have been assistant manager for 6 years, a few weeks ago without warning, the DM came in and said we are cutting out assistant managers position company wide. So that cut my paycheck VERY much. In 7 years I have only called in 1 time and that was because my child was ill, I have never been late, I always pull a shift if someone called in (which the store manager whom is paid salary is supposed to do), and the store manager messed up on a transaction and the customer shorted him $100 and I took money out of my own pocket to help him keep his job. Darren Jackson expects loyalty from his employees but refuses to be loyal to his employees. The only time anyone in the stores are recognized is when something is wrong. In 30 minutes my DM hurt my entire family by cutting my hours and pay. I don't want to leave because I have very loyal customers that will only deal with me, and I have been offered a very promising position with Auto Zone. But I am a person who doesn't like change and I love my team. So maybe one day Darren Jackson will have his position taken from him because he can't meet budget!!!!!

Letís also visit the wonderful area of service is our best partÖ YA Ö I see the short yellow bus coming to pick up the rock star that put that plan in place. As Iím sure that everyone doing CEL and VCFís are defiantly ASE certified and really should be giving out advice about the mechanical condition of our customers cars. Iím sure that our commercial customers just love the fact that they are losing diagnostic time and money to that game plan, but hey no problem because AAP will just start screaming at the CPP because the Commercial accounts are not buying as much. BTW just how is it that we are doing home delivery and installs using our MSPs and trucks while the commercial accounts sit and wait for their parts to arrive? Most shops pay on book rate and an occupied lift and no parts doesnít make a lot of money.
Itís time that this company gives itself a reality check and gets back to doing business the right way and not as a shareholder driven enterprise. If you want those customer to be customers for life then do it by reasonable pricing, happy employees (not employees that dread having to come to work and being brow beat into meeting some magic number that someone pulled off a computer screen based on a formula that canít tell the economic ability of the area just the past years performance then it adds whatever percentage the company is seeking to increase sales by). And real parts availability, remember we never say no, so when the customer wants it and we say yes no problem, sure we can get it. You call CCC that says ďyes, no problem, well place that order Ē you sell it to the customer, no problems there, customer goes on their way thinking all is good and that their need are filled, yes, happy customer, I agree. THEN you get an email several hrs. later stating that the order cannot be filled, I thinking thatís making customers for life, NOT!! How about a real computer system that actually have information about the customers current project might help too, but be careful, remember we can only diagnose and tell you your problems, and sell you the parts to fix it, if you want a print out of the breakdown of that component or other detailed information about the part that I want to sell you then you better buy a manual or stop over to AutoZone and have them print it out for you....

The work complaints being referenced here are no different than any other company in the retail sector with (near) minimum wage employees.
He's been there for six months. Give him some time.
I live in Midland Michigan, home of Dow Chemical Company. Jackson is a joke! He is only interested in is making sure he makes his money and will do whatever he needs to blood every store dry of it labor hours and have his DM using bully tactics to make his "programs" work!

I can tell you are a personal friend of "Woody Wood Pecker" Jackson. He has really never had to work from the bottom up, like other people. He started out in management and has never been any where, ie; but the front office.

If Jackson had the track record he has in his first six months with AAP, was with Dow, he would be FIRED! And let me point out that Dow sales in one mounth is almost equal to 2 years of sale at AAP.

Also I can tell you know little if anything about AAP pay scale. Most if not all employees, and this includes part-time, make well over minimun wage.

As he has not impressed me with his leadership and being a share hold that is not a good thing. He does not understand any part of the auto retail after market field. My big question to you is, Who in the hell does "The Wood Pecker" think he is that he can not work at the company headquarters and has to have special offices built by his home so he won't have to relocate? Like I said an ego like that Dow would kick his ass out the front doors of their HQ!

Well you can be satisfied, but as a share holder I am not. "Woody Wood Pecker" may be a "good guy" might be fine in some jobs, but as the old saying goes, "good guys finish last." He is not a "car guy" which is needed when operating a leading auto part retailer. And if he is such a wonderful leader why did Best Buy let him go? I know the answer, but do you. And your whole responce strikes me as being a "boiler plate." To many over used words, like "drive" "pulling my load" and the always famous "keeping a positive attitude and supporting my company." I have worked in PR and I know bull lines when I see them!
