Sprenger casts herself as 'outsider' in Assembly bid - Santa Cr...

In 1983, Barbara Sprenger was living in West Virginia. But she had grown tired of homesteading in the Monongahela National Forest and mailed her brother in Santa Cruz a $20,000 down payment for a new home -- a ...

Bill Monning seems to be the likely nominee. Most people think he has the environmental and political chops to be an effective legislator, similar to John Laird.

The others, not so much.

While Sprenger appears to have run an honorable and determined campaign, she's hardly a green candidate. And her ever-changing nature, beliefs and politics are cause for concern. She demanded that Cal Am drill no well in Felton because we must conserve our water. But when South County Housing Corporation drilled theirs in Felton, she applauded because it's "junk science" to say there's not enough water. She advocates socialist government subsidized housing and policy for everyone else, but a 5 acre property in the woods for herself and market rate developments by her private development company. In other words, her outword policy has little basis on character, honor or truth. We should look to a candidate whose actions run congruently with their words. Seems to me that is Bill Monning.

I'm sure glad Prop 93 (screwing with term limits) failed! We've got some great people to choose from.

Jim, those are so far from Sprenger's views, you're making my head spin! Which campaign are YOU working for?
She is very practical, has great ideas, and is good at building bridges between people and understanding all sides of an issue. Of the three candidates, she's by far the most moderate; to use the word "socialist" in any description of her is just kind of bizarre.

Can the legislature change the transportation vote to 55%? I think not. They can put such a measure before the voters though. The same can be said of the Democrat's desire for single-payer. They may have to do that by gathering signatures for an initiative but if they think that is what the voters want, that's hardly much of an obstacle for something as immense as that kind of change. Or perhaps these Democrats don't really care what the voters want.

Sprenger advocates for socialized health care, socialized housing, central govt controlled resources. Socialist for everyone. Everyone else, that is.

Look, Sprenger appears to have some interesting and plausible ideas. But when you look at what she's done - there's nothing wrong with being a freewheeling Capitalist, that's fine by me. But all her policy advocacy is pure Socialist. Possibly because that's what she thinks she needs to be to get anywhere in politics in Santa Cruz.

Which candidate do the unions think they already own? I'm still trying to make a decision about who to support. Sprenger seems to be the kind of person that will make the best decisions, not the political ones. I like that. I look forward to reading the profiles of the other candidates.

South County Housing drilled a well in the Felton meadow next to Safeway. Near the Safeway septic treatment facility.

Sprenger's not ready. She should have run for Supervisor first. Fresh out of Panetta school does not an Assemblywoman make.

Huh? How does that make one more qualified? I guess the local politicos haven't finished molding her in their image.

I hope someone can help me.

I have looked at these candidates and I have not been able to find one that even hints at the idea of looking at spending as a solution to the current government problem within the state.

Isn't there anyone who thinks that we might be able to solve our problems by living within our budget ?

I'll bet all of you do this at home. Why are these people any differnet than any of us ?

Help find me a person who is looking at spending.

I would never vote for her, remembering the Redwood Elementary School closing, and the number of families that left the school district because of it.

This is a candidate incapable of understanding all sides of an issue, incapable of building bridges, her perspective on socialized housing, water and medical care is so one-sided as to be laughable.

She's got bank from her free market capitalist ventures, but espouses intense government control for everyone else. She's the ultimate hypocrit.
