Skip's Restaurant in Chelmsford is sold
The end of an era is near. After 60 years of serving up "American Yankee cuisine," the owners of Skip's Restaurant are turning the lights out on a Chelmsford institution.

Not all good. I ate there once about 25 years ago and never went back. I miss the Paramount in Vinyl Sq. Used to go there for their chicken pie. |

The new owner/developer is going to put a "upscale" establishment there like he has planned for his Westford site. Catering to the well heeled.
My condolences to Skips. |

It's like the owl diner - the atmosphere brings you back, not the food.

Seems like you never gave it a chance. Great food, great people. A time like this should give us a chance to celebrate the 60 years of friends and family that have gathered here. Not everyone is a fan and that's ok. But those who loved it will miss it. Feel for the 60 plus dedicated employees and countless regulars. A classic spot that had survived the test of time. Good Luck to everyone who has worked so hard. |

25 years ago. lol. Hold a grudge much. |
|
No grudge, honest. There's no shortage of restaurants in the area. If you aren't happy with one you just try another. Over 25 years I can't even remember how many of them have come and gone. |

no they are putting a strip mall a new fine dining restaurant and a coffee shop |
Does anyone know what day they will close? I would like to bring my grandfather there before they close. My grandparents met there many years ago. |

Heard they were closing in August. It was an institution in the town but sometimes hard on your constitution. Great people working there, gonna miss seeing them.
Just what we need, another strip mall. The only thing that could improve the location is another drug store. |

My fantasy baseball league has met there for our draft for the past seven years. We show up at 9 AM head into the little side room and get coffee. Then we settle in and for the next seven to nine hours of drafting players, busting each others chops, and having some affordable lunch. Already on our league website there is a mock article on the passing of Skip’s Diner.“Where will I get my Cheeseburger Royale?” laments my buddy Adam (who also has a second fantasy baseball draft there). There are a lot of memories in that place for the ten of us that make up the Mill City Baseball League. That place was perfect for us. We’re already trying to figure out where to have our draft next year, and we know it won’t be half as good….

I really enjoyed having breakfast there. Decent coffee and whatever you felt like having that day. Wasn't too keen on lunch or dinner, but breakfast was always good. I prefer The Glenview for lunch or dinner.
It is really too bad that a townie location like this is going away. The town certainly doesn't need another strip mall, and that location is already too congested as it is. Parking was often a challenge, let alone trying to get in or out of the place. An "upscale" restaurant? Seriously, how many places does this guy think he can squeeze in there and still have parking. Bertucci's is a perfect example of a bad location for a good restaurant (not a sub or fast food burger joint). |
