Matt, that's very insightful. I'm glad to see you've finally learned to articulate yourself. However, I've visited the Strip Club a half-dozen times now only to report a completely positive experience--from Tim greeting us at the door to sampling the fresh ingredients of the small plates to interacting with the personable staff to enjoying the amazing, locally grown, grass-fed beef topped with MN foie gras. I don't know, maybe it's just you. You might want to look into that.:)

Most restaurants do not reserve every single table in the place and leave some for walk ins. As a female I know it's not unusual for female diners to be related to the crappiest table or to the bar.

Agreed-for a strip club the Lamplighter had the best tacos in town.

I loved the bottomless bowl of clam chowder they used to serve at the Lamplighter.

Hey Jay, you ignorant slut. The Lamp has without question the best tacos in the city. Get you mind out of the gutter and act like a man.

My takes is this:

1. The food for the most part is pretty good. The steak was excellent.

2. I didn't have any issues with the servers. As a matter of fact, they were great. We were well taken care of and everything was done with a smile. I really think you create your own services experience sometime. If you go in acting like a jerk, you'll get it back in return.

3. They need to add some sides.$28 for a steak with a side of carrots? I was hoping for hashbrowns at the least. The do have fries for Steak Frites I guess.

4. They need to figure out the value proposition.$8.00 for four walleye fritters?$5.00 for a little blue cheese and scallions? No sides with your steak besides a shaved carrot?$4.00 for bread and butter. They are going to lose customers simply because of that, it isn't enough food for what you are paying. I saw other small plates going out too. The idea is great, but even Solera gives you more bang for your buck than this.

5. The room itself was beautiful and the view of the skyline can't be beat in St. Paul.

So if I were rating it on a five star basis:
Food: 4 stars
Service: 5 stars
Environment: 4 stars as it can get loud
Value: 1 star

I still would take people to see the Mancini boys for steak in this town if I had a choice. I like the Strip Club, but I can get a better bang for my steak house buck at Mancinis.

I'm sure the $6.00 glass of cola, always half-full or pay again, also is a real "deal".

The Minneapolis Clubs and their lunch buffets run circles around the Limp, I mean Lamplighter. I enjoy the Lamp, won their golf tournament twice. But it's not my first choice for dining and I'd take Boca Chica or LaCuc on Grand for Mexican anyday and twice on Sundays over it.

Ok-I will concede the point about the half full cola issue.

But I still say the taco deal is the best in town.

Fair is fair and it is a good deal. You're right. It's just not one that everyone would be comfortable partaking in.

What I can't figure out is why would anyone open a business in St Paul? Particularly on the East side, where crime and cheap people rule. Whose going to spend that much on a meal when 98% of the neighborhood is on some type of entitlement. I give them nine months.
