I still miss the Town Meeting, and now Skips?!
|
|
I will miss this wonderful place. I taught Math at CHS in 1969-70 school year and had both George and Fred in my class. We went there for breakfast almost every Sunday after Mass. We brought our kids all the time. The service was wonderful. Louise would usually be our waitress and would bring us our tea and coffee and "vanilla" milk as soon as we sat down. I got to meet the who's who in Chelmsford politics. Now I live in Tewksbury but return on occasion. I still go back at Thanksgiving for apple and cream pies. My son now drives up from Brockton for the banana cream pies. I will definatly be back for one more breakfast and one more lunch with apple pie for dessert!! Thanks for the memories an best wishes for your retirements(s). |

Sadly, I no longer live in the area and miss it even after ten years. Skip's was where I ate my first restaurant meal in Massachusetts, and loved eating there. However, like me, Skip's must move on.

I left Taxachusetts in 2000, and was delighted to leave. I shall miss Skip's, more than the average Joe. I long believed that my car had a homing device under the hood. I could never pass that place without a hard right turn into the parking lot. And, I had the good fortune to meet dozens of wonderfully crazy people, who also enjoyed "Attitude Adjustment Hour" ( Gawd, the money I spent in that place!) I wish the owners a welcome month or two to do nothing at all. Yes, They all worked very hard. It is sad to see it go, but we all move on in life. So long, Pete, Billy W. Weird Old Electric Uncle Paul and all the great friends that I made over the years.

we started coming to Skip's when our daughter, mary, was a student at Umass Lowell. We live in New York State and I don't think there is any place from here to there that will ever replace Skip's. Even though we don't live there we will always remember your fine food and and the feeling of being home! Thankyou! Geri and John

Can blame this closing directly on ridiculous oil prices. The outrageous costs are going to force the mom and pop restaurants out of business. How’s a business owner suppose to turn a profit with milk being three dollars a gallon?
Just wait until the truckers really strike and everything we get from on road shipping ceases. Guaranteed we will see a lot more local business's close. And who do we have to look forward to to lead this Country out of these times, three candidates for president who nobody really wants. RIDICULOUS! |

I'd like to comment on Fred Burliss' line about his concern for his employees. I happen to know that the employees have been worried for months now that Skip's was sold and would be closing, and George and Fred denied it again and again. It turned out to be the truth, and the employees had to read it in the paper before the owners had the decency to tell them up front. If he was so concerned about the employees, he might have given them as much time as possible to plan for the future. Sure, they have every right to sell their restaurant, but it would have been appreciated if they could give the 60+ employees the respect they deserve in repayment for the loyalty they've been shown over the years. The only "concern" they had was for their own well being.

Another strip mall? Brilliant!
I'm sad but understand the owners' predicament. It's a shame nothing could have been done to preserve it but everyone these days wants the chains and the mom & pops are drying up and blowing away. I can remember stopping there every morning in the 80s and seeing all the regulars. Another piece of my past goes -- I guess that's part of surviving your youth. |
