Another strip mall in Chelsmford? Wow just what that town needs. It is very sad to see Skips go, if not that it was unique, and a landmark for the town. I wonder what will happen, when the Video store next door closes, and from what I hear Zoots isn't exactly doing too great either.

I'm not going to lie guys, it's going to hurt and hurt bad for a long while. I grew up in Billerica and still miss the pizza, turkey clubs and blueberry pancakes from "The Cove" these oh-so-many years later. The loss will never go away but you'll learn to cope and deal with it. You'll find other things to occupy you, but you'll never forget.

This is sad News. Coco Kamala and I have visted this lovely resturant for years. It's a shame. We don't need another strip mall over a shrine like Skip's

Coco Kamala is going to miss the sandwiches and french fries at Skips.Coco is also going to miss the great desserts.Coco agrees with the big old skipper, we don't need another strip mall. At least Coco Kamala still has the Owl Diner.

You can't fault the owners for selling the restaurant. It's a very demanding business(long hours,7 days a week.) I'm surprised they lasted this long.Good Luck to both of them in the future.I've stopped there many times while in the area and have nothing but praise for the place.

I guess it's sad to see this place go. Most people I talk to in town remember going there years ago. But no one under the age of 60 seems to get in there much anymore. If one more person tells me "oh, they do good breakfast!", I'm going to scream. Anyone can do good breakfast. But the rest of the menu is tired and unimpressive. The land is far more valuable, and in the big picture, I don't think it will really be missed.

Shame on the owners. Many folks I know love to go to Skips for companionship and conversation. Money DOES talk, does it not!

I worked as a bartender at Skips for 7 years during the 1980s. It really is an icon - whenever you mention Chelmsford to people, they all know Skips immediately. I wish George and Fred my best - nothing lasts forever, and although it will be missed, people must realize that the restaurant business is a tough grind and everyone should get a chance to retire!

Who the heck are YOU to criticize someone for making a decision like this?? What an incredibly ignorant condemnation. Do you know the owners at all? How long is your workday? What kind of vacation time do you get? Be sad that it's gone. But seriously, to put forth that sort of judgmental critique is really disgusting.

If they raised the price of toast ,The same folks that are crying " Sell outs !! " would be be the first to complain .Walk a mile in their shoes before you pass judgement .. The owners loved what they had ,but overhead was getting out of control. Your words are spoken like a true grandstander .

The Myanmar cyclone could have taken the old Skipper down. Then all of you simple-minded people would only have the wind to blame. I'm sure Skip would rather have this be the case than having to deal with idiots coming up to him for the rest of his life asking 'why Skip?' why?(idiots)it's a resturant people, move on! go to the Ground Round

I am saddened to learn of the departure of Skips. Many of my fondest memories of my late parents and family celebrations with them such as confirmations, First Holy Communions, etc. Then as I grew up, dates with my boyfriend ~now husband, family meals with our two children, even after funeral dinners. It runs the gamut. The food was always superb, the staff so pleasant and sweet. I will miss Skip's dearly.

The owner is cashing in & retiring. You can not blame him, i am sure he worked his tail off and made good money over the years. That propoerty is worth a fortune. Why make a ridiculous claim of not being able to survive in the current economy ?. That makes no sense. Retire and cash out on your investment....but please loose the outrageous comments. Plenty of independant owners are thriving. You do need to change with the times. Skips has not.

I am sad to see the restaurant go.
It has been much a part of my life growing up in Chelmsford.
The times spent at Skips will never be forgotten.
I just wish someone stepped up to carry on the traditional restaurant and it had not been sold to create another strip mall in town.

I was not a big fan of Skip's food but it is sad nonetheless that an establishment with local character will be lost only to be replaced by yet another generic strip mall. Who is really to blame though? Why do so many locally owned restaurants go out of business then get replaced by the likes of Chili's and Applebee's whose parking lots always seem to be filled?
