You are hearies all ignorant!!! One day, when you get old and maybe you'll lose your hearing. Then what? You are old and cant walked. So might as well order drive thru.
Next time I ll order a large meals at the windows instead of speaking thru that speaker thing and cars behind will have to wait til my orders are ready for me.
Hearing aids dont replaced hearing back. You all moron hearing people!!! Go take a Deaf Culture Class at a Community College and I guarantee you that you will learn very interesting thing about deaf cultures!!

Does being deaf limit your ability to type proper sentences as well?
So you are having narrowed mind in this view? |

Back in my day, you'd have never heard of such rubbish....The profession of law has become an absolute joke in this day and age of sue/settle....Those who go into law these days are looking for angles, loopholes and settlements, not to defend the law as our forfathers had wanted...they should be ashamed and take their JD degrees and BMW's and drive straight off the end of their local fishing pier w/the doors locked..

No. I usually advocate for the under dog. However, I just don't see how a reasonable person can demand that a drive-through system based on speaker boxes (sound only) be effective for the deaf.
I was actually poking fun of the way the poster was constructing sentences. On doesn't need perfect hearing for that.

Get a clue, go to law school.

I'm deaf, my family is all hearing, thank you. My kids are extraordinarily well behaved. Why? Because I teach them like my parents taught me: be respectful to others, don't scream inside a restraunt, etc. I don't demand special treatment everywhere I go, as a matter of fact, if you read my blog, I'm usually TOUGHER on my deaf colleagues for trying to get special attention when they don't need it. In this situation, I feel like she was absolutely right. If you go to page #9 of these comments, you can see the original story with many more tidbits of information than is presented in this version. Thanks for the middle finger salute, in Japanese sign language, that means "friends". Now, go start on your 3rd attempt at the "See Spot Run" series, they need role models in 1st grade. Maybe you will get through it this time. |

Yes, and you seem to think that people actually recognize an emergency vehicle when it is coming at them because of all those lights and sirens. Well, as a firefighter/paramedic, let me be the first to tell you that the vast majority of you drivers are idiots. Most people don't even SEE or HEAR us until we are right up on them. Then they panic and don't have a clue what to do. My favorite experience was the guy who slammed it into reverse and proceeded to come barreling AT us. Thank God I have my own personal defibrillator! So, ya, I read your comments about emergency vehicles and that deaf drivers would be able to recognize a fire engine any better than the average American. I doubt they will. I am also not a fan of a lawsuits. I also agree that it probably would not have killed McD's to let her drive up to the window. They handled it like jerks. Big suprise that a kid making minimum wage at McDs isn't top notch at his job. However, let's be real, a lawsuit over this? She is just looking for a payout and she needs to get over it. If this is the worst she is ever treated in her life, she is doing better than most of us. The average teller at the grocery store is ruder these days. She could have solved this situation without an attorney. This only increases the cost of a Big Mac for the rest of us. |
I also would have told a person with a full cart to get out of the express lane. The grocery store could have someone assist them in the other lane. |

McDonald's is bad. Just so glad of the lawsuit.

Can anyone understand a deaf person? How the heck are the people taking the order supposed to understand them?
Speaking???? The article was for written so your clarity is on the borderline for retardation! |
What? And I don't mean 'What?' as in deaf. I mean 'What?' as in 'What The Hell does that mean?' |

I bet she is a big fat hog, to fat to walk in. I SAID I BET SHE IS A BIG FAT HOG, TO FAT TO WALK IN!(just in case she is reading this)

if you believe that is a "reasonable accomodation", then you are an idiot. lets say that its lunch time. you get 30 minutes. you're 20 cars deep in the drive thru line and this deaf chick can't hear the box. if she can't hear the box, then she can't guarantee that if she informs the cashier that she is waiting till she gets to the window to order, that the cashier will hear her because their headset might not be turned on at the moment. this is delay #1 for your 20 car deep ass. now she gets to the window. however, the average length between the speaker box and the window is about 3-4 cars. so now, there are 3-4 orders that are ahead of hers before she gets to the window to place her order, throwing the whole assembly line system that the drive thru (for fast convenient service) is based on out of whack potentially screwing up every order behind her. delay #2. now you order a quarter pounder w/ cheese combo - supersized. however, in your haste to get back to the office because you've wasted 25 of your 30 minutes for lunch waiting in a drive thru line cause some dumb ass bitch needed special treatment for her order, you figure your order is correct and don't check it. now you get out of the drive thru line and turn onto the street to head back to the office. you pull out your burger to eat on the ride back (cause you don't have time when you get to the office cause your lunch is now over) and you realize its a crappy ass filet o fish. but you are allergic to fish. you can either go hungry and wait till dinner tonight or you can go back to mcd's, and wait in line for them to fix your order. so you go back and wait. they get your order right, you eat in the car, and you are back at the office. however, you boss sees you took an extended lunch (and doesn't really give a crap why) and fires your ass. NOW WOULDN'T YOU HAVE PREFERED THEY ASK THE LADY TO COME INSIDE TO ORDER (WHICH THEY DID AND SHE REFUSED) AS TO NOT HOLD UP THE SPEEDY SERVICE THAT THE DRIVE THRU IS THERE TO OFFER? BETTER YET, WOULDN'T IT BE MORE PRACTICAL THAT THIS WENCH THINK FOR HERSELF AND NOT EVEN GET IN THE DRIVE THRU IN THE FIRST PLACE? point being, that she was given a reasonable option and she refused. she should get dick! |
I agree, |
Really? Gee, since you have never heard me speak, how would you know? Yes, I know some deaf people can not speak well, however, I was hard of hearing until about the age of 17 when I lost the rest of my hearing. So I was able to hear with the assistance of hearing aids, and my speech is just fine, thank you. Let me ask you a question, based on your screen name here: Do people find it hard to understand you when you are going down on them? Also, I bet you have a bald spot right on the back top part of your head from everyone rubbing your head while it is in their crotch, right?:-) Get lost, Phillie Fagnatic |

Many in my family are Emergency Services personnel as well, so I completely understand your frustration with idiot drivers. My point is that MOST deaf drivers are much more visually aware of their surroundings and are usually considered very safe drivers. Yes, there are idiot ones, just like there are idiot hearing drivers, idiot ambulance drivers too, even. To say that it should be illegal, as several posters have, for deaf people to drive SIMPLY BECAUSE THEY ARE DEAF, is preposterous. That is more of an unfair litmus test than anything. There are plenty of idiots driving the roads today, in all forms and manners of vehicles, should we begin giving a psychiatric exam as part of the licensing requirements? To address your last point, please look at my post back on page #9 of the comments. I linked to the original article that had more details than does this version in the Sun-Sentinel. She made several attempts to address it without sueing, and they did not work. I hate lawsuits, as I have said before, but sometimes they have to be filed before a corporation, person or other entity will address a situation. I don't know this person, I don't know the details of her lawsuit, if she is going for money, if she is money hungry, or what, so I can't speak to that and don't think others should either without all the facts. |
What?? Don't act like as Mr. Dummy. What? as in hearing. Hmm To put deaf people down based on your OWN opinion without weighing the facts! |
Hearing aside, it's your READING skills that need attention. You should, by now, understand that these blog post replies have a significant bias toward the restaurant to deliver the fastest, most economical service delivered to the clientel they serve, NOT a bend-over-backwards policy from everyone who feels that they deserve special service to order a hamburger. And the replies you have offered here, in VERY derogatory tones, only reinforce the opinion that many persons have about your demanding contemptuous attitude. Let's pray that those well behaved children that you rave about don't read this! |

I have answered venom with venom, nothing else. Certainly, drive-thrus are supposed to be fast and economical. But using some of the twisted logic that has been applied in many of these posts, it would simply be best if EVERYONE went inside, because according to some, she was not only deaf, but lazy and fat, a whiner, etc. If that is true, can't the same be said of every single person who goes through the drive thru?
She didn't ask them to bend over backwards, she asked them to simply let her order through the window, her autistic kid (or kids, I can't remember how many) was asleep. Getting out would have entailed either leaving the child alone in a car (scary thought since he/she is autistic), or waking the child up. Autistic children are very routine oriented, waking them up prematurely would have resulted in the child becoming extremely upset and hard to control. This would have effectively created the scene another poster broadly accused me of creating with my kids in an earlier post, which I am sure would have reinforced in people's minds that kids of deaf adults are loud, screaming brats, basically, because the deaf adult can't hear and won't control them. That's what he implied, that's what would have happened if she had to take them in. She was trying to avoid that. Does that make her lazy, fat, stupid, ignorant, etc.? No, that makes her a normal parent, like many others in line that day. My reading skills are fine, it is you who are missing the big picture here, along with many others on this thread. Yes, I do have contempt towards people who are so blindly illogical that they simply refuse to see the truth or logic behind anything. Their closed minds and condescending attitudes are often the root of the problem. If you feel it is derogatory, and if you are such a champion of people being anti-derogatory, why have you not posted once single time about the people who have blasted deaf people in general or specifically here? Why have you not said "Hey hold up, let's not be derogatory here"? Maybe you feel it is not your job to referee, and that is fine. But don't blast me for being derogatory when you won't blast any other posters here. |
