Take it no Velvet Turtles remain open? Only Redondo & Torrance were mentioned in the blip.

Loved the "Green Godess" salad dressing and I also would always order a cup of the cold soup they were also noted for.

I also enjoyed the Green Goddess dressing.

Sad to hear that the days of the "chilled" salad forks are going away.

Thanks for that trip down memory lane. Many family milestones and accomplishments were celebrated at that establishment and I'm thankful to have had parents who took me there to understand the difference between "feeding your face" and the fine art of dining.
Sunday brunch at Velvet Turtle!! Now I've got myself thinking about recreating that steak and eggs with the fresh guac and salsa next Sunday just to step back in time a bit...or maybe the eggs benedict. Either one I make I'll be pouring mimosas while I'm cooking!

"anon" is correct..........there is such a difference between "feeding your face" and the fine art of dining. I also enjoyed the Velvet Turtle very much. A class act.

Woah. Another fine establishment gone? Can't I leave you guys alone for twenty years without you destroying all my good memories of the South Bay?

That Velvet Turtle was fantastic. Lots of great memories with family and friends over the years. When they closed, all of the servers uniforms ended up at the Goodwill Store on Torrance bLvd. near PCH. I bought one and still have it today. It made a great Halloween costume that I wore to quite a few parties !!!

The Velvet Turtle, Rubin's, The Hungry Tiger, and The Seafood Broiler are all nothing more than a memory. I'm the type of person who is willing to pay a little more for a quiet, classy dining experience. There are very few choices left in the South Bay.

In my opinion, the Velvet Turtle in Riviera Village had the best piano bar in Southern California. I particularly enjoyed the sophisticated jazz voicings of pianist Paul Smith, who was Ella Fitzgerald's accompanist for many years. But even if Paul himself wasn't playing on a particular night, you could count on whoever subbed for him as being top quality.

Ah, the piano bar - another casualty of our ever-coarsening culture.

Just drove by a velvet turtle up here in roseburg Oregon. Looks like a bit of a dive bar. It really don't remember the one on pch very much only went there a few times for very special occasions. Any thoughts on the origin of the name?
