Anyone here in charge of managing and ordering supplies for your restaurant?

I really hope to use this channel to spread the word and encourage all restaurant owners and managers to consider the fact of going green in your restaurant.

I noticed that a lot of restaurants are still using the classic styrofoam boxes for take-out or for leftovers for your guests. However, as we all know, these are not environmentally friendly since they cannot be recycled are not biodegradable. In fact, styrofoam boxes are banned in the city of San Francisco (where I lived for 4 years in college) because of a lot of green activists whom protested for more environmentally friendly products. As a result, restaurants have to use other types of boxes to give out to customers.

Now that I'm done with college, I came home and realized that truly the city of San Francisco is the only place I know that has a law that bans the usage of styrofoam. I am very surprised and hope to change the use of styrofoam in other cities beyond S.F. because I have experienced this through my dining experiences and realized how alternate materials of boxes given to me work just as fine as an unfriendly styrofoam box.

Some perks of going green are:

1) of course, at least biodegradable material can be recycled and be used as compost, therefore helping to eliminate waste in our environment.

2) you can market this fact that your restaurant is going green by using biodegradable products and showing concern for environment

3) help spread the word to your other restaurant owners/ managers friends so that slowly each major city in the US can be participating in this green movement.

I have researched and talked to a company that produces biodegradable to-go boxes to start supplying US restaurants with these types of products. Not only do they make to-go boxes, but also various sizes of plates, cups, and other utensils. These are all FDA approved to be used to handle food materials. I even obtained the reports of these tests.

Please comment on this and let me know your interest. Together we can try to take one step to help maintain and protect our environment. You can also email me about your interests in obtaining samples of this biodegradable products that I am talking about.
