It's terrible that $95,000,000 is used for mall expansions at this time in life. It's so very un-necessary. Why can't that magnitude of money be spent on other important things? Cerritos should be ashamed to waste money on an art sculture that will probably block views of traffic.

What a stupid waste of space and money.

The bozo's that authorized this piece of CRAP should get fired.

And the *artist* that thought this stupid thing up needs to find a new line of work - may I suggest fry-cook at Mickey-D's

The original design planned called for a giant sculpture of a shopping cart, but officials feared that a giant homeless person might take off with it...

It is ridiculous that they're spending money on a useless thing like this. And Nordstrom is remodeling so they can charge more than they already do.

Another "art project" to promote consumerism. I am glad I don't shop at this dump. Overpriced merchandise with high overhead. Cerritos a.k.a "East Lakewood".

Yes thats there own prvt money they can do what they want with but for shit sake use the money wisely atleast at these times. A statue? give me a break. there are roads that need paving, not to mention stop signs and more signals that should be put into place to prevent even more accidents and car wrecks think about it. Lets think about whats really important before even thinking about spending money on bullshit like a statue cmon!

It's not the City of Cerritos spending that money. If you learn to read closely, it's the Macerich Company who is putting up that money.

So where do you shop? At the even more overpriced high-end malls like South Coast Plaza or the rundown swapmeets that attract the lowest kinds of consumers. You're totally misinformed.

East Lakewood??? What a stupid comment. Cerritos is far ahead of Lakewood in terms of economic activity and development.

These images are just speculation. I'm more likely to believe the events that will happen next year, than the events that may or may not happen 10 years down the line.

I'm glad to see a company spending money and helping to create jobs in retail, restaurant and construction through this expansion project. The artwork may not be appealing to all but the City requires artwork for all new development. $5 million is a small price to pay for the amount of tax revenue the mall generates. The tax revenue coming out of that mall is a major part of the bread and butter for Cerritos.

Speculation? Have you taken the time to read the documents on the Orangeline website? http://www.olda.org/

1) During the Cerritos air pollution comments the City Mayor public commennted, on city video, that a solution should be in place in 5years for the 91, 605, 405, corridor. http://cerritos.granicus.com/MediaPlayer.php...

2) The Orangeline is currently in the process of seeking over $200 million from "government." Remember this is a project that our officials keep telling us will be funded with "private money."
http://olda.org/Records/Agendas_Reports/2009/...

3) Last year the OLDA hired a global law firm to raise $20 Billion in private fiancing. http://www.reuters.com/article/pressRelease/i...

I suppose. I still think the money could be put ot better use elsewhere, no matter who the money comes from. I give when I can to people in need, I guess it's wrong to hope others would be as kind.
