Hair dye liver studies

Medical library studies, National Cancer
Institute (NCI) and google show liver cells adversely harmed by chemical "phenylenediamine" in hair dye.
Hair dye companies only include gloves (no color cap). But Dupont the phenylenediamine manufacturer prohibits skin contact in their MSD-sheet.
The FDA website says exposure should be limited.
Is slower liver harm safer?
