use it for raves! or you can make a giant tattoo shop out of the place.

You are a bully.

Oh like Jack wants to have to subsidize the City's mistakes! Get a clue dance school dunce.

All the way to ESRI? Well I guess it would go all the way to "let's close a whole damn street just for ESRI." The mall should be torn down. I like the idea of relocating the remaining shops to downtown. |

I still think 4-5 *quality* well known restaurants with an large excess of parking would do wonders for downtown...

The Redlands Mall is a fine example of 1970's gigantic concrete and shed style architecture. The dramatic skylights meshed with the exposed wooden beams is a one of a kind design. Remodelation or demolition of the mall would be nothing short of a tragedy.

If Redlands is really moving toward sustainability and a "greener" community, the reuse of the Redlands Mall as a civic center/ safety hall facility is the only economic and environmentally friendly option at this point in time. Save Redlands Mall and reuse it as a Civic Center/ Safety Hall (the city already owns the parking lots, the underground garage and airspace). This is a "no brainer", so Martinez and Hobbs should be able to make this recommendation to the Council without too much more effort (and consultant fees).

I think the downtown core area where the existing redlands mall is blight and decay. There are so many opportunities for this city of redlands to do wonderful things with that property. Rather than the humdrum banal spanish revival architecture we have seen TOO much of, the city needs to develop a mixed use residential and business development with new architectural elements like Glass curtains, waterfalls, oak or pine trees, and east coast style buildings and color schemes. The city finally has the chance to do something wonderful and promising with that 14 acre site. In my opinion, the ESRI new HQA building is a PERFECT example of the achitecture and new designs I would hope to see happen in the downtown redlands area.

Rory, where is your money tree located, or did you find a pot-o-gold at the end of a rainbow. Have you heard the concept of "economic downturn" in the news lately?

I think That Jerry Bean is a good politican and person but he always Recussed Himself from presntation since he does things for the mall or something he does it quite a few times within the last couple of times.

He has to recuse himself (consistent with FPPC rules) from voting/ discussions because at least one of the tenants/ owners advertise in his newspapers (and is therefore a source of income).

thats true thanks for the info

It will definitely never be filled with retail again after thinking about it. It has to draw consumers from Redlands proper and seriously how many people would shop there? The donut hole is drawing in the you upper middle class with kids that spend money. It has good access and draws all of the EH Ranch people. The EH Ranch are the type of people who spend lots of disposable income. Old Redlands does not have the quantity of people in that demographic. Niche stores and restaurants will always have a home downtown but I think there is far too much store frontage in old downtown Redlands for our town to support anymore. Tearing it down could be the best option. |

El Gaupo, stay with grain, real estate valuations obviously escape you. So you think we should just have a big empty lot in the middle of downtown during this on-going financial crisis? General Growth wants too much for the existing building and improvements for that to really be a viable option at this point in time. I'm sure the City RDA's consultants are all over this- NOT (so hopefully they aren't looking at this as an opportunity for new development, but instead as an opportunity for reuse and consolidation).
So you actually think someone will open a business in that big brown concrete box? |
You are not suggesting the city buy it? How could the city possibly come up with funds to buy that? I read that just updating the old Cracker Jack building is going to cost 1 million. Must be some serious security in there for that price. |
The City can't afford not to buy (back) their first big redevelopment blunder from a private owner (and partner) that is in bankruptcy. Otherwise, it will surely continue to drag the future of the City downtown into the realm of the unknown (aka "the abyss").
The project should bring great value to the surrounding businesses. It just needs the right timing.
