When the housing market crashed in 2008, homeowners weren't the only ones affected. Many builders also took a big hit to the wallet -- and, as a result, many of their new home construction projects were left unfinished.

In addition to foreclosures and short sales, the real estate market has also been littered by unfinished homes in recent years.

So, are these homes worth your time and money?

Generally speaking, unfinished homes often aren't worth the investment.

Why?
