Romney did do an ad with only white people in it.

Further, it's not unusual for a candidate to put out targeted ads. Do a google search on George Bush and Spanish Ad. You'll find TV commercials featuring Bush speaking in Spanish targeted at Latino voters across the southwest way back in the 2000 election.

Did anyone care? No. Why? Because Dukakis did a similar thing when running against Bush Sr. There's nothing wrong with addressing a particular constituency.
