As a devout church-going Protestant, I say that NOBODY should listen to what the Catholic Church says about ANYTHING.

From the article:
"Kevin Collins of the conservative blog 'Coach is Right'. In an April 2 article, Collins says he believes that gay rights activists are "plotting" to get gay marriage legalized in order to force Catholic churches to either recognize same-sex marriages or close down, as they would lose tax exceptions for doing so, he maintains."

We could care less if churches recognize our marriages or not. Our goal is to have the government treat all marriages equal in the eyes of the law and not have "skimmed milk" marriage.

Such ignorance!
.
Gay people have their own churches across America and in 42 nations around the world
.
We don't need to conduct our weddings in straight churches full of snarling religious homophobes

Catholic leaders are pouting for sympathy and not getting any because civil marriage has absolutely nothing to do with a church
.
Churches don't sell marriage licenses
.
Marriage licensing is a government function

If gay married couples are not allowed to 'receive the kewl-aid' we'll bring our own
.
Perhaps the Human Rights Commission can sell red and white 'equal' kewl-aid thermoses as a fund-raiser

Catholic leaders know that. But Catholic leaders are trying to impose their narrow religious beliefs on Americans who freely choose NOT to be Catholics. This IS RELIGIOUS BIGOTRY !

Catholic leaders do NOT believe in Freedom Of Religion, nor the separation of church and state. This is UN-AMERICAN AND EVIL.

This isn't about the Catholic Church's religious freedom, it's about IMPOSING THEIR NARROW BELIEFS, THRU CIVIL LAW ON ALL AMERICANS, CATHOLIC OR NOT.

How can anyone legitimately say that this is NOT Evil ???

Cardinal Wuehl: "The difficulty is we believe that the sacrament of marriage is made for a man and a woman."

That's the problem. This guy cannot seem to comprehend that there's a difference between his "sacred rite" and my "civil right." No one is asking the Catholic church to change their rites.

And every single piece of gay marriage legislation that is written always has a provision specifically excluding religious organizations - provisions which I think are unnecessary since their rights to worship, and think, as they please are in the Constitution.

Now, it's YOU that are having difficulty with a basic concept.

It's NOT that Catholic leaders do not UNDERSTAND the difference between civil marriages being and religios marriages (THEY DO !), but rather that Catholic leaders DO NOT BELIEVE IN, NOR SUPPORT that concept.

They FUNDAMENTALLY DO NOT BELIEVE IN FREEDOM OF RELIGION, NOR THE SEPARATION OF CHUCH AND STATE. Those concepts are NOT part of the Roman Catholic Church's belief system !

Look how many centuries the Roman Catholic Church INSISTED that many contries LEGALLY ESTABLISH THE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH as the "OFFICIAL" "state church". A separation of the 2 is ALIEN to them.

The Roman catholic Church IS UN-AMERICAN BECAUSE THEY DO NOT BELIEVE IN, NOR SUPPORT THE SEPARTION OF CHURHC AND STATE.

And in line with that, ALL of you shoud be protesting and writing letters and demanding The Obamaniac's IMPEACHMENT for violating the separation of churcH and state, because, FOR THE FIRST TIME IN AMERICAN HISTORY, The Obamaniac is sending an OFFICAL U.S. DELEGATION to the Pope's formal installation.

THIS IS IMPEACHABLE !

Until recently, a federal law was on teh books for more than 100 years, that FORBADE diplomatic relations with, and legal recognition of, The Vatican. I was, and still am, AGAINST a repeal of this federal law.

Has The Obamaniac sent an offical delegation to the Anglican Church ?! Or any other religious organization ?!

IMPEACH THIS BUM !

Well if the RCC cannot grasp that this is not their child abusers' theocracy then perhaps we will have to revoke its tax exempt status.

There a very real and ancient heretical tradition in Roman and Eastern Xianity. Despite public statements to the contrary, the churches functionally operate as if the only real members are the hierarchy, and the rest are ... well ... sheep.

Another christian leader who doesn't know the religious book on which he professes to base his faith!

"We try our darndest to make sure we’re not an anti-anybody. We’re in the defense of what God has taught us about marriage. And it’s one man-one woman, forever, to bring about new life."

Wrong. What God taught in the beginning was incest (how did Adam and Eve come to have grandchildren if Cain did not marry his sister? And how did Lot's daughters conceive?); secondly, polygamy (how many wives did Abraham have again? And Jacob? And Solomon?-- all with God's blessing).

"You’re not supposed to be following a moral law apart from what Christ has said to us."

Well, duh -- gays don't need to, because Christ never said a single word against or about homosexuality! It was the founder of christianity, Paul, who started that crap -- he who wasn't married to one woman either, but had a young male travelling companion.

They're either ignorant or blatant liars, these christians, and read into their Bible whatever they want with absolutely no regard for truth or honesty.
