This is obviously agenda driven. Have they done the same thing with driving records? Arrest records? Civil court records?

A newspaper in New York has received a wave of criticism from its readers after publishing the names and addresses of all of the individuals with handgun or pistol permits in its coverage area.

Judged: 2 2 2 You have no idea how difficult it is to get a pistol permit in New York. It takes close to a year in some cases and you are thouroughly investigated to make sure your background is spotless. Publishing the names and addresses of pistol permit holders is an invasion of privacy beyond harrassment. Pistol Permit holders are some of the most law abiding people in New York because of the stringent requirements to own a handgun in New York. You are sadly mistaken if you believe they are so called gun nuts. Maybe ONE out of ONE THOUSAND loses their permit for something and in many cases it is not firearm related. |

Judged: 1 1 1 Agreed, I live in Mass and have a Class A license to carry, which means I have to carry concealed, I in no way shape or form want anyone to know that I have my license to carry it's no one's business. |

Judged: 1 1 1 As long as you are not breaking the law it's not something people need to know. None of their damn business at all. |

Judged: 1 1 1 Who are elitist lefty pigs, too bad that more regual persons weren't denied their right to carry. I'm sorry, I've got no empathy for elitist pigs. |

Judged: 1 1 1 1) the non gun owners are pissed because they have been outed as easy targets. 2) the author's name, address, and phone number was published nationally as an example of how an invasion of privacy feels. |
|
Judged: 1 1 1 I also heard that the newspaper revealed the name and address of a woman who was being abused by her husband. She is a gun owner and was in hiding out from him. |

Judged: 1 1 1 Until recent years when you asked for a 'public' document you got everything, social security numbers, birth dates etc. After 9-11 especially many states started withholding that information even on a formal request from non law enforcement. If they can withhold social security numbers on public documents for security/privacy reason why shouldn't these clerks offices be allowed to legally withhold information like this. Now many are crying first admendment first admendment which I agree to a point. The same crowd is also trying negate the pro gun second admendment supporters as hypocritical. But even the second admendment doesn't allow you to unconditionally own guns. There restrictions like criminal record, no fully automatics, can't open carry in most states etc. But this is where this is going-the first admendment. Also the first admendment doesn't allow you to cry fire in a public setting. The first admendment doesn't give you the right to distribute someone else's personal or propietary information ie this part is sort of like illegal file sharing which came off the public internet. But get ready. The same media types that are anti-gun/ditch the second admendment will hide behind the first admendment. |

In a FREE state( more free then northern commie states), we can have open carry. Personally, I have a CCP, which took 3 judges and police chief, and the sheriff to sign off on. Not everyone can get a CCP, just like up north. The left trying to undermine the 2nd amendment, and the people who own a weapon legally, is against the law(constitution) and need to be brought to justice. Proof positive that liberals lie, and liars are liberal. I would say for you good folks in the north move down here, but you need to stay up there and clean up your own mess.
