Quad/Graphics nears end

The George Urban Boulevard location, which formerly operated as Worldcolor Buffalo and Quebecor World Buffalo, still has about 275 employees, said Claire Ho, a spokeswoman for Wisconsin-based Quad/Graphics. Quad/Graphics in April announced its plan to close the Depew plant late this year.

I have a couple of friends I worked with that moved with quad. I say moved because the closest plant to ours was like 400 or more miles away. I get updates from west virginia and geogia plants sometimes. same kinda work environment. Machines are not to stop for any reason.. Quantity Qauntity quantity.. Can't even feel good about the product you produce. Thats the reason I think for the uniforms quad makes you wear. To take away your identity and make you feel like your in jail and trapped in a miserable work environment. Glad my 16 years with J&h,WC,QW,WC is over sounds like it got worse with quad if thats possible.

Sadly, money means more than ethics or community responsibility to Quad. I wish to send out my hope for better days for those who are losing their jobs. I feel eventually many more ppl will lose their jobs before this is all over. Those of us in Hazleton are questioning when the ax will fall, not if.
Their community responsibility lies in WISCONSIN DUMB A$$. Quad actually did you a favor by buying your god forsaken sh!thole. You guys probably would have closed quicker if Qaud would have sat on the sidelines.

Don't think so.We will see just how long Quad lasts with 2x the debt the Quebecor/ worldcolor had and a stock value that does not support the debt the banks will jack up the interest on the loans.
"Community" 46 million from Wisconsin tax payers to subsidize low paying jobs with a sh*thole company that will more than likely go chapter 11 in the next year

Since Quad bought us I am now glad to say we are closing this company has to be one of the worst to work for they care nothing about their workers. Quebecor world was crappy to but at least we werent prisoners in a building. Everybody for the most part got along. And lets face it when you are together everday for 8-12 hours are bound to have disagreement but then it was work as normal. We had fun, did our job, got the work out, and we we were not under the eye of the big brother. Joel has a power issue he thinks he is the almighty. So now thanks to him buying the plant in mexico we can go back to school if we want and get all kinds of help from the government. Even though Im not looking forward to looking for a new job it is a blessing in disguise. Good Luck to all the Quebecor plant employees that are losing their jobs. Quad will find out. They didnt need to close buffalo. they said it was old well they pretty much took all our equipment to put in their plants. well enough said

It's not up to date.In 2010 the plant was purchased from Worldcolor/Quebecor world by a Sh*thole cult company Quad Graphics .By employees refusing to work for third world wages and benefits the plant was closed in 2011 after 100 years.

Its really sad that Quad Graphics threw away a company with such rich history in printing. They took over 100 years of growth and prosperity and threw it away. Good luck to all the good people that dedicated their lives to this plant.

As a manager in a production environment I am deeply interested in the concerns of the personnel I work with. I must mention I have no "dog in this hunt", while I am not affiliated with any of the companies mentioned in this thread I am in the printing industry.

Having looked through the posts I cannot help but notice the comments about the company, "Not caring for its workers".

From a management standpoint I want to know any time the policies I set forth cause unrest amongst the people I work with and encourage them to come to me with concerns in order to come to a solution.

What specific things has the company done to create an uncaring environment? At anytime was management approached with these concerns? What benefits were cutback as the result of a rapidly shrinking economy and seemed uncaring?

I am interested in these answers as I do not want to repeat them with the people I work with.

It is my hopes you all come across greener pastures and all find work to fulfill your needs. There is nothing worse than watching a company you once took pride in coming to work for each day slowly meet it's demise.

What specific things has the company done to create an uncaring environment? How about cursed at people, make them work over 6 hrs with no break, not even a snack, treated them like dog s***, there isn't much management hasn't done to make it an uncaring environment!
At anytime was management approached with these concerns? Over, over and over again!
What benefits were cutback as the result of a rapidly shrinking economy and seemed uncaring? Pay, holidays, insurance, you name it they cut it! No pay raises but insurance increases plus having to pay for uniforms.
The workers use to have pride in their jobs but that stopped several years ago when they started being treated like crap. This use to be a company (not Quad but before PK) that people wanted to work for but was hard to get a job with because the workers were happy and turn over was minimum.
Why companies can't get it through their heads that happy workers means they take pride in their job and put out quality work and work harder. It's not rocket science, it's simple...you get what you give!
I truly hope you are better to your employees than Quad/WorldColor/Quebecor ever was. If you are you will have loyal employees that take pride in their work and will go the extra mile for you.
Good luck!

Open Letter to Joel
Dear Joel,
Where do we begin? It was safe to say that when the news of Quad Graphics had acquired World Color, a large portion of the employees here at the Atglen facility thought that things would be on an upward swing. It looked very good for many employees here; however a black cloud of despair has reared its very ugly head.
It seems as though management has taken full advantage of the job market and has used this as a tool of discontent, mockery, slave labor, and what ever rule they can bend to meet their evil purposes. We have employees with forty years of service in this plant that is treated like dogs. Forty years is a long time to be at one job. Forty years is how long Quad has been in existence. We are not asking to be treated as Kings, but just to treated as human beings. The mere thought of this makes one to wonder if this is the true Quad way.
There is no community involvement here, the community use come here and rely on small token items that it takes to survive. Hoagie sales barbequed chicken are just a few things that our community were very, very grateful for and be able to come into the plant and meet our neighbors, thats all gone.
Company with a soul, there is no such thing in Atglen. We have nothing but a bunch of I know what Im doing managers running this plant and not running it very well. Soon as word gets out that someone of importance is coming they hide things behind normally open doors. They must take you for some of fool. Management is very good at running things into the ground. Is this safe? We do not think so!!
Your management is very good at cursing the employees. More than once it has been heard in the hallways your top dog dropping the f word when things do not go his way. Is this the Quad way? Humiliation, favoritism runs rampant in this plant unchecked.
And it all come from management, what happened to treat all people the same. All those little sayings on your little blue pinwheel mean absolutely nothing here in Atglen.
Honesty, integrity, and accountability, the values, which should be the hallmark of this company, have instead been thrown under the bus by an arrogant bunch of managers and foremen, casualties in a misguided plant to shield from accountability those who abuse the workers.
We hope this letter finds its way to you Joel, we hope that you are the fair person that you seem to be. Please help, Atglen is being run by the Satan himself, he will not be hard to miss, he is tall, wearing prescription safety glasses, and ESD rated shoes.
