USPS should take 'service' out of its name

Long lines, no stamp vending machines, fewer window clerks, they want you to buy your stamps at your local supermarket or online. via South Florida Sun-Sentinel

why would anyone even want to stop at the post office when you can order stamps by phone, mail or internet. I have better things to do than stand in line behind people that just want to talk to the clerks about their personal life. by offering customers various ways to buy postage - I believe they are offering a great service - I had a question about the size of envelopes and a customer service rep emailed me back with dimensions. I did it from the comfort of my home......

WHY WOULD YOU THINK THAT A STORE COULD STAY PROFITABLE SELLING
"STAMPS ONLY" ? GET A LIFE, GET A COMPUTER, ORDER ANY THING YOU WANT ON LINE AND SPEND THE TIME YOU SAVE TRYING TO HELP FIX SOMETHING THAT IS BROKEN!!!!

I'm proud to work in an office that does provide SERVICE. We have customers that will drive the extra miles past other Post offices to get the SERVICE. From our carriers to our clerks we treat each customer the way we would like to be treated. But sadly we do know that other offices don't provide what the customer is looking for in service, as otherwise we wouldn't be constantly getting the compliments we do.

absolutely true over 1 in 8 postal employees is in a management position and there is no way any business can continue to provide service to the people when it has 12 percent of the work force doing no physical work

You can print POSTAGE online at USPS.com .

Either sticker or plain page which you tape to mailing item.

Really time for everybody to Learn how to do that. Almost 2008

Standing in the DINOSAUR Postal Line is a #$%&*@!$#% Joke and will turn you into a Dinosaur. PostalSaurus!

Save Time. Print online.

Get a postage scale if you have big packages or Weigh it at the
Automated Postal Center Machine.

That thing can do Anything.

I got to the post office at 3:40 and was looking at a very long line...I thought wow this is gonna take forever.
Turns out I was leaving with all of my stuff done at 3:52.
12 minutes!
That is awesome!
I get sooo tired of people who can't stand to wait for something good.
So tired of folks who think the world should revolve around them.
The only reason that other delivery places have lower prices is to compete with the post office and even then you can't.
Is it easier for someone at home to mail something UPS???
I don't think so.
41 cents for a stamp that takes your letter 3000 miles away.
I know stickers that are a dollar that don't do a darn thing

I have been a proud postal worker for the past 24 years, but this last year, the cuts in customer service, the new rates with the different sizes of envelopes, the long lines have made my job sometimes unbearable. The musical Christmas cards: are they 58 cents or do you send them as a small parcel. for a $1.30. A customer brings a parcel which is over a cubic foot and now I have to get the tape measure and measure this parcel which once was $13.00 is now $48. Management continues to abolish bids and I am told to forget the customer as I sort the mail too and get the collection boxes outside. I was lambasted by upper management when I explained to a customer why there was only one clerk on the window and he was #30 in line. I told the truth!
The only thing to get me through the day is having you smile and leave satisfied at my window. I wish all of you a beautiful holiday. Just keep the smile in your heart!

Use fedex
Open an account and just drop off your packages
NO LINES - they bill your credit card

Also the USPS uses Fedex for their ground service

Why pay twice

buy stams at costco cheaper than the post office

Purchasing stamps at a grocery store gives customers another option. Tell me where lines arent long especially this time of year. The Postal Service is finally coming up to the 21 century with these machines. Should banks take ATMs out of their branch offices because they cant give you a mortgage rate? Come on wake up your article stinks

Steve, you have that backwards, Fed-ex uses USPS to move their packages. I know that is true because I am a mailhandler at a large bulk mail center. Fed-ex in return flies USPS mail on their planes.

Old Clerk - Don't know why that came up as Foley Al, I'm in a even smaller town called Lillian. Population about 5000. We are a retirement area, full of snowbirds. And LOTS of grandparents that want to mail Christmas packages.
I love it (even though short one clerk)
But unfortunately today I will have to retract my earlier statement partly. We're supposed to have a "working PM". The PM came in today, worked the mail. Questioned why I had set up other window to be used, I advised we would most likely need two windows open. She very firmly said that was my job.
No argument there but we've got one person that apparently doesn't understand SERVICE to the customer.
The PM left with full knowledge that there was a line out two doors of our building.
I love my job and actually love this time of the year. Just wish others could see the value in providing a decent service. Merry Christmas to ALL!

People are shocked when I, a mailman, let them know that I no longer pay my bills through the mail! I do it online for free from my bank. It would only take a few hours of working with the "automated mail" to see where your letters really wind up at... its a crime how this place is run! And people want the government to run the health care system? Come on!!

That's right, let's do everything on the computer and forget how humans interact with each other and hole up in our caves and become a pack of snarling beasts.

Civilization: the failed experiment.

Some people posting here do not understand that not everyone wants too use a CREDIT CARD for everything. I happen to like the Human interaction and I pay for almost everything with CASH. The Postal Machines in the lobby are great but they will not take Cash like the self checkout at HomeDepot. and not everyone want to Torture themselves by trying to dodge all the Idiots that you find at CostCo for some stamps. Sheesh you have to wonder how some of the people can actually get through the day.

Not a word here about the poor postman who makes his daily rounds lugging bags full of advertising for KMart, Pizza Hut, auto dealerships, supermarkets, etc. We live in the only civilized country where the PO is supposed to be self-supporting, Republican-style. No subsidies! That would make it socialism. GOP style

Ditto on the Junk Mail. I have piles of it waiting to open and shred. On my computer I just hit "delete."

Don't forget that USPS won't even deliver your packages to you if you happen to be gone the first time they come by. UPS and Fedex come back the next day to try again. But "Priority Mail"? Got to get in your car and pay gas to pick up a package that you paid to have shipped to your door! That's the kind of "service" they give now--self-service!

First of all, a customer should buy a book of stamps, rather than wasting gas and time everytime they need to purchase a stamp or two. Stamps are also availbable online, or via stamps by mail. You can buy any stamps that you want by mail with no lines. You can also custom design your own stamps at several website by uploading a picture. Mail volumes have dropped, so the extra clerks are no longer needed.
