I'm a yearbook sponsor in Texas who uses Lifetouch for both pictures and to print our books. Knowing the printing process as I do, I think this whole thing sounds peculiar and am eager to see what the whole story is, if it ever comes out.
For all of you who are thinking "big deal, anyway" to some extent you are right -- nothing irreparable has been done. However, the students and their teachers put in a tremendous amount of work and a lot of money to produce these books. Parents pay big bucks for these books, I know, but the staff works hard to sell ads, etc. to minimize the cost of the books. I know in my community, we sell the books for less than what it costs us to have Lifetouch print them, because there is no way most of my students could afford a book otherwise.
For those of you wondering what on earth any of this has to do with you, well, I would think that the fact that Lifetouch is a company based in your state and thus affecting your local economy might make you sit up and take notice.
