Good Lord I hope so. I have taken Prevacid for as long as it's been marketed and it's been a lifesaver. Blue Cross tried to force me to take Nexium and I had all sorts of reactions to it. They continue to hassle me about Prevacid refills and I continually have to ask my busy doctor to call the "authorization" hotline. In my opinion, that is just a shakedown. A generic version will, I hope, stop the unrelenting pressure on me to buy Nexium. Prevacid solved my GERD problem the first day I took it and I've never looked back, so to speak.

I agree with you both. I wish the rx would stop telling me that this will work as good or that will just because the insurance doesn't want to pay for it. In my case, as i'm sure in yours, prevcid is the only thing that I have found that stops me from choking.

Iam currently taking 2 prilosec over the counter, plus 2 300 mg ranitidine plus 4 gaviscon at night to try to get the relief prevacid gave me.

Prevacid is the only thing that works for me. I've tried all the others with no luck. My insurance is trying to "bribe" me with 6 months free Prilosec. Not going to happen.

I've been on Prevacid for 10 years with excellent success. My online pharmacist called my doctor to recommend Nexium. I asked the Doctor if it would work as well as Prevacid. He said yes. I agreed to switch. I haven't had heartburn in 10 years. I've been on Nexium for 4 weeks and have heartburn every other day. I will be going back to Prevacid.

I am with you guys on this one. I took Aciphex for some time and it worked very well, which of course meant that BCBS decided to make it a "non-preferred" drug & thus jacked up the co-pay. My doctor switched me to prevacid on a trial run to hopefully save me some $$ and I've never looked back, the stuff is great. Of course now the rx plan at my new job doesn't want to pay for the prevacid - going so far as to try & send me generic prilosec without my dr's ok! Now everytime I go for refills I have to remember to ask my dr to fill in the DAW so I woun't have to fight with the mail order geniuses, and still they charge a hefty co-pay. I really hope this generic comes through soon!

So does anyone know when the generic Prevacid will be available in drugstores? I'm going broke trying to pay for this stuff every month (over $150 now, and BlueCross only pays about 1/4th of that fee). And I'm with you all on how great Prevacid works as compared to the others. I've tried them all except for Prilosec. I first developed horrible acid reflux in about 2001 and the first PPI the doctor put me on was Nexium (which is basically Prilosec plus "mirror image" molecules). I was on Nexium first for 2-3 weeks and got practically no relief, plus constant headaches, stomach aches, and even a purple rash!! I then switched to Aciphex and that worked great with no unbearable side effects but after 2 years it stopped working for an unknown reason. I then tried Protonix for 2 weeks, then Prevacid.....and I've stuck on Prevacid ever since, something like 5 years now. It's just too expensive but I have no choice, I can't live without it. A generic version would be a godsend.

This is great news! My comment could be the same as this one! My experiences have been the same. Have been taking Prevacid since 1999. Now the insurance won't pay for Prevacid. I'm glad there is a generic on this now!

This is FANTASTIC news! I have GERD, my daughter (7) and son (11) also take have it. For some reason, the insurance had no issues with giving my son Prevacid but were hassling us about giving it to my daughter when she was 5, tried forcing us into another drug (after already forcing us to try prilosec and failing- it did NOTHING). Thankfully, we have a wonderful pediatric gastro who's office said no and they went to a commitee to make a decision. They did give it to her but it's ridiculous! She takes two- 30 mg doses a day and our copay is $50/month. The drug cost now is approx $400/mo w/o insurance. Thankfully, Prevacid has a program to help bring down your out of pocket cost by $25, but a generic is even better!!

I can't wait for there to be a generic available. I have taken Prevacid for over 10 years with excellent results that nothing else can compare to. My insurance company forced me to try the PrilosecOTC, which did not work and I would sometimes have to take two a day to aleviate the heartburn. Thankfully I have insurance but I am very disappointed in all the insurance companies for refusing to pay for Prevacid. After starting the PrilosecOTC, I have developed IBS(at least that is what the doc thinks it is). I have had thousands of dollars worth of test to try to find why I am all of sudden severly constipated since the start of the PrilosecOTC. I am now back on Prevacid with much better bowel movements-the doc still don't believe it had anything to do with the medicince forced by my insurance company but it seems to me that it was the cause. So they have wasted thousands of insurance money not to mention what I have had to pay out of my pocket for copays and coinsurance when if they had of continued to pay for the Prevacid they could have saved a considerable sum of money. Let this be a lesson to all insurance companies. I will be soooo happy when the generic comes out and I am sure my insurance company will also since it will be a cost reduction for them.

My Phramacy tells me Nov. 2009 the generic for Prevacid will come out. Hope so, my copay is $150

My insurance company won't cover Prevacid anymore, either. I've been feeling terrible ever since I had to switch. I had to have an endoscopy because I thought my stomach was going to explode! There should be a law to protect consumers who need a specific medication. So far I've tried omeprazole, Zegerid (omeprazole and sodium bicarbonate), aciphex, pepcid. Nothing works for me like prevacid. Where in Canada did you buy it?
