Unknown if dad watched shaken baby video

A 4-month-old infant remains hospitalized after he was assaulted. Police say the child's father shook him so severely the baby is injured for life.

It is common sense to NOT shake a baby-please. Watch a video to learn that? I had my children years ago before any law like that and I knew enough to never do something so sick. Here's an idea for a new law-permanently sterizlize the the ignorant trash of this state!!!!!

I can what his attorney will be using as a defense already.I don't even know if he actually has an attorney,but if he does,this is probably what he would use as a defense.

Back in the days where people had common sense.. Unfortunately the barrier for that fell down somewhere.. I couldn't agree with you more though. Mandatory ~ irreversible sterilization for the first offense of molesting or child abuse..male or female...

Greg my cousin... and i KNOW this isn't like him... my mom and dad babysat him when he was younger and I've known him for years. He's raised and fathered two kids perfectly and knows how to deal with a screaming baby gently. He's a great father and I highly doubt he did this to his own child. he's also raised many dogs from birth and you don't do something like that if you have such a great love of animals. If my father and I knew he was charged for this we would have backed him 100% but however we did not find out until today in the paper. He doesn't deserve to take such a blame for this and I will say it again, he would NOT ever do this to his own child. i wish there was some way I could help but i fear it's hopeless now and i don't know what I can do... but he'll be eaten alive in prison and I'm just in utter shock and I only feel horror when i think that he might not live to see age 30...

I too had children well before this shaken baby video and for most out there I think its just a no brainer. Our society needs to make big changes and in a hurry both on the law making end of things and the home environment. My parents gave me my values, back when neighbors were a "neighborhood" and my parents knew everyone...consequently they also knew every stupid stunt i pulled. Lots of things combined here but big changes needed.

First of all Zachery, your cousin admitted to this horrific crime and therefore should face the mandatory consequences. I do not feel bad he may never see 30, this child is 4 months old and may never see 1. Prison is to good of a place for any man or woman that hurts a child. My heart, love and prayers go out to this baby and my prayers for this man if guilty, is to face the maximum punishment allowed by law. Our country is in trouble when we have such little value for life and we can defend the actions of adults who hurt children.

Sorry but he admitted to this terrible crime, so he DID this to a defenseless child. He needs help no matter how many kids or dogs he raised in the past. People change and obviously this man did.

Yes Kathy, I just read that on timesunion.com . How sad.

Common sense should tell you that you don't shake a baby. Those who need a video shouldn't be parents. A license is needed to drive and to get married, perhaps one should be required for parenthood.

Side note, I have 2 kids and I don't recall ever watching a video. I don't even think it was mentioned to me.

You're right it is common sense, but when I had my daughter in 2003 i couldn't leave the hospital until I watched that video, to protect kids it should be mandatory.

I had my son in 2003 and no video. I wonder if it varies by hospital, I was at St. Peters. Maybe the nurses are too stretched to remember to tell you that you have to watch a video. I don't know. What I do know is that I don't need a video to tell me that I shouldn't shake a baby.

I was at St. Marys in Troy it probably depends on the hospital, but I have said before I think people shouls have to take an exam before they have a child. So sad the way people treat kids, makes me want to save the all :(

I feel that all new parents need to watch this video before they are sent home to deal with an newborn infant.Raising children and caring for newborns is a real challenge for some all need to watch and be educated .

This baby was born at St. Peter's. They mandate that the parent must watch the video (and sign that they have done so) before they can be discharged. (NY State mandate.) But who knows if this idiot was even there. Maybe the mother was the only one who watched/signed for it...
