44 employees? WHY? Mascotte could run on police force plus 3.

Once again the employees who do most of the work are the ones to lose their jobs. Granted of the 4 employees who were laid off, 2 will transfer to the replacement garbage collection company. As far as the old mayor, don't forget Mascotte is a City Manager form of government. The mayor and council are basically figureheads. Things wouldn't have run any differently if the old mayor had been there instead of the current one.Speaking of the city manager, it seems the fire dept. needed another vehicle so she donated her suv. to the fire dept. to save the city the price of a new vehicle. In place of her suv (which was bought and paid for by the city and she drives back and forth to work while living in the Villages),she will drive her own vehicle and receive a $650.00 per month driving allowance. Seems to me that's pretty steep for a city trying to save money. Another thing, with the slow down in house construction, does the city really need 3 employees in the building permit dept. and 2 employees to collect water bill payments? Another example of city hall protecting their own a**'s while laying off the true workers.

Obviously they laid off the code enforcement workers.

But they need all those people in the building department; they do not do their own plan review or building inspections, and they need someone to answer the phone and tell you "I don't know" whenever you call to ask questions.
And yes, OCPS, the code enforcement officer is still there; he's another one who gets to drive his vehicle home every day. They need him so he can drive around and tell you your house numbers are too small.
Let's also talk about the house they purchased behind city hall, that has a pretty sign out front that says "Conference Room". I thought that's what the community center was used for. Guess they couldn't afford the gas to drive the 1 1/2 blocks to the center and were too lazy to walk.
