At the risk of sounding like an isolationist, globalism is what is causing a lot of problems in this country. We've outsourced our manufacturing trades, we're importing cheaply made and/or unsafe goods, we're destroying our small farms and businesses who are unable to compete against global corporations, and our government is controlled by these megacorps. When Constitutional rights get in the way of these corporations, they just ignore them. A prime example is National Animal ID System which violates the 1st,4th,5th and 14th Amendents and possibly the 13th, but is being forced upon all livestock owners in the name of disease control. It is really nothing more than an international marketing scheme. When will the public finally demand that our country not be run by unelected international organizations who are only looking out for their bottom line?

The bottom line is: Our kids are getting substandard education. When they leave high school, they are not prepared for the real world.Ask a kid "what language is spoken in paris"? He'll tell you "Parisian". Now thats education.!

Reverse globalism is on the way. You should listen to Kunstler. That cra p you buy at Walmart takes large amounts of energy to get here. This energy won't be as available or as affordable in the future.
The effect will be to replace a China- to-Walmart distribution network with one that is based locally or regionally. Unfortunately, WM has ripped out these networks all over the country and they have to be rebuilt.

Interesting reply. In the 3rd Wave Toffler recounts a conversation had had with a US military general. This guy told Toffler "the nation-state is dead" .This was 30 years ago.
What has replaced the nation-state in pre-eminence the supra-national organizations, the NAFTA's, WTO's and global multi national corporations.Of course the countries are still here but the way things work in changing, things like sovereignty and observance of rights, laws, etc.
Just wait to see if Exxon ever has its own army (instead of using ours for free), NAFTA has a military, etc. You'll get it then.

funny, I've heard a few times that the MBA types will be replaced with MLA types in pre eminence in business. The logic here is that as we go into the future, consumers have more and more of a need to feel connected to something.

Since they don't feel connected to a dysfunctional society, they want products that somehow have meaning to them. Consumer products are ubiquitous so the challenge for business is to develop products to somehow make people feel like it fits their lifestyle.

This is where the liberal arts thing comes in-having a broad based education that allows insight into all of the varied consumer identities.

With my basic understanding is this is more right brained than left brained

This is a terrible article! There's no focus and the title is misleading. Note on right and left brain: I would say we are a right brain society in the states. We are entrepreneurial, creative, independent thinkers, and visionary. But, we also prefer collegial to ranked authority. It's written into our constitution. Of course we are right brained! Any education system that tries to kill this is forgetting Hollywood, the music industry, marketing powers, Google, etc. Try to make ALL our kids left brained? What for?

Hell Yeah! I too was thinking of the title while reading some of the threads. Anyways back to the main point, I agree alot with magg here... It would be boring if it was purely intellectual and logic that runs the world. Personally I appreciate the diversity of people and how they think. They add contrasts and complement each other unknowingly through that. That's why it don't matter if they are left-brained or right-brained as long as they use it...hehehe... As they say,'a mind is not a vessel to be filled but a candle to be lit.' Good day to all...
