I just think some heads of these companies need to start disappearing, there trucks and plants suddenly catching on fire, and whatever else can happen to them to get there attention. If the government cannot do anything about these scum who are sitting back laughing at everyone else, then why cant we.

I have just one question and it goes to both State and Federal Goverment bodies " IF THESE OIL COMPANIES AR MAKING RECORD PROFFETS WHY DO THEY NEED TAX BRAKES AND ON THE OTHER END THE GOVERNMENT SAYS IT WON'T DROP THE GAS TAX TO HELP OUT THE PEOPLE WHO REALY NEED IT" that is to say that oil producers are more important than the rest of the country, we don't have enough money to tell the people WE vote for what is best for us.

Yep, y'all boycott tomorrow, maybe I'll be able to go to Wal-mart's (Murphy's) gas station and not have to wait in line for 10 minutes to pump my gas.

I've got mixed emotions about this, but I remember back in the 70's when there was a supposidly a gas shortage there were tanker ships lined up off the coast waiting to dump their fuel until gas prices went up.

Exxon can't set the price of crude. They just play a timing game to be able to maximize profits for thier shareholders. Research to see who is having a real good lump dropped in their 401k thanks to this "evil" company. Maybe even you.

I remember when gas was 28 cents a gallon, was 15 years old in 1970.
I don't know how much more the people of America can take of this goughing. We have always had the cheapest gas in the world, unlike Europe, they are paying 9-10 bucks, have always paid more than we did,. triple digits.
40 billion profit for Exxon, gee, seems criminal.

Gas prices are RIDICULOUS. Why should WE, the consumers, make these companies BILLIONS in profits, while WE SUFFER. We should all go ON STRIKE and see how they like that.

NO STRIKE on the 2nd of MAY. Let's give some time for this to be circulated and then set a date. How about MAY 8, 2008. Seems like a nice day to remember.

Where is the headline talking about the record taxes that they paid as well?

2 sides to every story, but then again, those types of headlines don't "feed the machine" nearly as well.

Also, look at the margin of profit and you will realize that it is not all that hot; cut demand, then cut profit.

I think its a shame that they (Exxon) can brag about their profits when the majority of Americans are suffering because of it. People are having to use part of their grocery money to pay for gas so they can work. I would also like to know why diesel fuel is higher than regular gas??? It takes LESS effort to produce diesel than regular gas!!!!

They aren't "bragging". They have to release earnings info for stockholders.

Diesel is now higher than regular gas thanks to tighter emission standards (low-sulfur diesel is now mandatory), which like ethanol costs a lot more to produce. If you want to hit the oil companies where it hurts, just stop driving. By the way, a gallon of gas in Venezuela is currently at .12 a gallon. If we could get to the oil located right here under our feet in the U.S.(Anwar, Rocky Mountains) we could have .12 gas too.
