Did Devon Renig on its Core Mission and Values?

To Whom It May Concern:
My name is Angel Levario. I was recently given a job offer of Logistic Coordinator (Materials Management/Logistics Professional 2) only to have that job offer rescinded approximately 3 weeks after.
After I received my official offer letter I was asked to sign a waiver allowing Devon Energy to perform a criminal background check. Before I signed that letter I disclosed information about a past felony that I had received, of which the records had been sealed and would not show up on a background check.
When the background check was performed, a misdemeanor charge was found from 1997. I received a phone call from Gay Speller in your Houston office asking me to discuss my background further with her.
I disclosed the same information with her that I did with the HR department in my interview process. Upon the disclosure of that information, she informed me that she was referring to the possession charge that showed up on my background check and not the felony that had previously been disclosed (which did NOT show up on my background check).
She informed me that she was unaware of the information I discussed with HR and inquired further about that incident. She said she was going to pass that information on to the background committee and I would be contacted at a later point in time by Human Resources.
Before I was contacted by HR, I received my copy of my background check and noticed that there was inaccurate information on it. I immediately contacted the Ector County courthouse to receive an accurate ruling on my judgment that reflected the correct charges. I then forwarded that official document to HR.
I received an e-mail back from HR informing me that I would not be able to begin work on the initial projected start date due to the background committee and security department reviewing my information.
Soon after, I was contacted by Katie Mangus and she informed me that my offer had been retracted and Devon Energy would no longer be offering me this position.
One of the biggest things that stuck out to me when I was interviewing/applying with Devon was this clause:
Always do the right thing. The most important of our values, integrity, defines the core of every relationship we have. Whether inside the company or outside the company, integrity establishes the trust that is critical to the relationships that make our values work. Embracing honesty and integrity as our most important value means we stick by our word and we will always do the right thing, even when no one is looking.
When asked about my background, I demonstrated complete honesty and clarity even though no one was looking and no one would have ever known. I believe this demonstrated what Devon believes is a core mission and value; however, I do not believe Devon conducted itself with these values in mind during this process.
Furthermore, I believe Devon made a judgment of my current character upon a sealed incident that occurred over 15 years ago and upon inaccurate information that was presented to them.
I was given no chance to defend myself and ultimately my fate was decided by a committee with whom I had no contact and who I never met.
Clearly, everyone with whom I interviewed thought I was the best candidate for this position due to my past experience, expertise and because my core values lined up with those of Devons. It saddens me to think that my honesty throughout this process and inaccurate information provided to Devon by a third party was the reason that my offer for employment was rescinded.
I wish Devon the best in their pursuit to hire the best people, always do the right thing, deliver results, be a team player and be a good neighbor.
