"In addition, City Council has asked city staff to consider sustainable or "green' approaches to various projects."
There's nothing much greener than keeping as much of the furniture you already have as possible.

The real answer is that it is easier to write a check on taxpayer's accounts than to do the work of making do with what you have already bought. I'd love to see a list of the office furniture and accessories that city hall has purchased in the past several years that would work perfectly fine in the new city hall. Why are we paying someone else to do the work that should be done by our city employees? If they can't do it how about hiring a local company to assess what can be utilized? I know half a dozen firms that could do that work and the bill for new furniture would be reduced by at least half.

but they mean "do as I say, not as I do"!! We are all having to buckle down and scout sales...why can't the City Council do the very same thing?

Eric Martin, city contract administrator, said because of the design of the new building, including some new technological advances, some of the older city office furniture won't be compatible with what's being built.

You have got to be kidding me. Older office furniture is not compatible? What makes an existing desk, chair or filing cabinet not compatible.

C'mon Mr Moore .... just admit that all y'all want new furniture in the new building. Don't give us to BS bureaucratic nonsense about ergonomics.

Just make sure you donate the old stuff to people in Las Cruces who can use it. Make sure it stays here. NO TRUCKLOADS OF STUFF TO JUAREZ

You taxpayers actually expect these low life politicians to use common sense and think of those paying for this before they make decisions as to what furniture they will be getting? Man, are you deluding yourselves. Step out of that bubble you live in and face the realities of crooked politics in this country.

By the time these bozos get done, we will have paid between $30 to 35 million dollars for a building for them to lounge in and continue their dishonest and self absorbed ways of doing business. Yet, we keep putting them back into office, don't we? Now who is the stupid one here?

As a City employee, I do not understand why we cannot take the decent furniture most of my department has. It is a HUGE waste of money.

Let me get this straight! Our property valuse continues to go down, our property taxes continue to increase yearly and now our elected officials want to throw out existing furniture to but new furniture from three vendorseat a cost of $1 Million? I think it's time we all attend some city council meetings and rebel!!

It doesn't matter who's in office. Only in the past few years have I come to learn that all politicians are scum and are, in various forms, my enemy. This million dollar furniture bill really takes the cake, though.

Good post, LC Today.

S-c-u-m censored? Come on! It's like the Mormon Gestapo sometimes. S-c-u-m: that disgusting brown ring of filth that forms inside a toilet bowl and makes me retch when I see it - the same reaction I get when talking about politicans.

A million dollars for furniture? You got to be kidding me, right??? We need to vote these idiots out of office. They should have been looking at ways to save money before they "added" the parking garage. Whats next, patio furniture????

i do not think that the city of las cruces needs to be spending 1 million dollars for new furniture ,when we have lots of other important issues her in the city to deal with!!!! why cant some of the furniture already in use be cleaned up and fixed up and that would certainly save alot of money!!!

of course, no local businesses submitted bids for the furniture. none of them were notified of the bidding. if the current furniture is so ergonomically incorrect and could cause injury, why was it bought in the first place. as usual, local projects are given to out of town companies. it'll never stop!!!!! i just had to say something!!!

Some of the offices off Motel Blvd have balconies on them. The nicest and most expensive buildings in Las Cruces are government buildings.

Politicians and school administrators are the last to go in cost-cutting measures. They take care of their own.

Why shouldn't they screw taxpayers? We are stupid enough to elect them and re-elect them based on one factor, whether they have a "D" or an "R" after their name.

Whatever happened to the concept of public servant? Time to clean house.
