Don’t stand in way of 1st-class restaurants

There are 34 comments on the www.register-herald.com story from Jan 17, 2012, titled Don’t stand in way of 1st-class restaurants. In it, www.register-herald.com reports that:

Don’t stand in way of 1st-class restaurants I noticed in Monday’s paper that a hearing is scheduled today for public comment or input to the building of an Olive Garden in Beckley at the Raleigh Mall.

My question is: Why the public input? There has never in my knowledge been a hearing before any other restaurant was given a permit to open for business. Why and who is it that is trying to stop the Olive Garden and Red Lobster from coming to Beckley? Are they afraid it will put them out of business or take away from them? It seems that someone is trying very hard to keep a first-class restaurant from coming to Beckley.

Beckley is in need of restaurants of this caliber where you can get a good meal without music so loud you can’t hear someone across the table from you talking. Want my input? Let them start construction ASAP.

I think we need to start putting bans on all new restaurants until a lot of people lose weight and learn to start feeding their kids correctly. We need to have a law to make it illegal for restaurants to have drive thru windows except for REAL handicapped people and being over weight is not a handicap. We need to have scooters at stores for real handicapped people, if your so fat you take the scooter in the grocery store than you need to walk, not ride and eat. Handicap parking spots are for sick and real disabled people. Eating until your 50 to 700 pounds over weight is not being handicapped, it is being a glutton. It always makes me laugh when people say it's not my fault I have a bad thyroid, bullshit, eating 1 pound of food does not turn into 10 pounds of weight. I do understand being depressed and other such problems makes it hard sometimes but how does being a fat slob and not being able to walk make anything better ever?
LOL I can't wait until all the fat people on here read this and get mad, this is going to be funny. There is nothing wrong with being a bigger person and they are just as pretty and as much loved and appreciated as everyone else. The people I am talking about are the fat ones on the fat scooter at wal-mart, you know who you are.
Mr Mess, you will never hear me say I have a bad thyroid because I weigh 555 lbs, what you will hear me say is "dam that was good, may I have some more"? I don't want to get over 575 Lbs, cause my wife is a smallie, and doesn't want me to get out of shape, she comes in at 127 Lbs fully clothed. One thing you don't have to do is laugh at fat people on scooters, you shouldn't laugh at anyone, cause they don't laugh at you for being ugly or at your mom for being stupid or your children if you have any for acting like assholes in public. Now you be a nice person and stop laughing at fat people, cause if you don't my skinny wife will slap the sh*t out of you, now stop it now!

When I think of a first class restaurant I don't think of Olive Garden, or Red Lobster. Sure they are a nice place to get some decent food, but first class they are not. I have no problem with them coming to Beckley. But do we really need another restauraunt? Personally, I would like some more upscale stores to shop at. I would love to have a mall the size of the one in Charelston or maybe even larger, I think it would be great for the local economy to have something like that here. For those of you excited about the new Olive Garden enjoy.:)
I kind of agree, but this isn't the area really for a French Restaurant, how many people are going to pay 50 to 60 dollars for a meal?

Personally i think what is happening in Beckley is great, lots of areas have nothing being built and businesses closing, who knows, once they get the by pass done maybe then, lol, like in 2043, but Beckley is doing good

Man, French food is great, i lived over there as a kid in the 60s and worked downtown Austin Texas around 2000 where they have quite a few restaurants like that, shopping was something i endured with my Mom and a couple of wives, i'd rather fish.

Would also love to see either place come to Summersville area! Applebee's and Bob Evans getting pretty old! It is quite a drive to Beckley from Summersville and surrounding communities, especially during winter months. We would even love a Mall the size of Beckley's mall, Sams would be tops! Anything in Summersville would be an improvement!

Hmm... the only place I can think of that Olive Garden would have competition with is Pasquale's. I've also heard that the state of WV could completely close all drive through windows due to the state having a high volume of overweight people. I wouldn't know being 102 lbs haha. Does anybody know if that could really happen?

I thought, after reading the quotes on the thread about the Greenbrier and Jim Justice, that I couldn't find any that were worse or more stupid, but then I found this thread. Chain restaurants are NOT first-class. They are OK, maybe, but not first-class.Close down drive-thrus? Do any of you understand the constitution at all? WOW, the ignorance of some citizens!

Drive throughs are not a right, they are luxery item. Who cares if we don't have drive throughs? Get our lazy butts out of the cars and walk inside. That's the first step to solving obesity. Drive throughs make it real easy to be fat, order from your car, drive home and eat.People would not eat near so much fast food if they had to walk inside and order.

Umm... I never stated that was a true fact or anything. I was simply asking if anybody else has heard about this.

I think that's the reason why I've heard about them closing down the drive-thrus. I'm not saying that they ARE going to do so, but that's just what I've heard. I rarely go through the drive-thrus and only at certain places, mainly just whenever we are traveling though.
