Right. I wonder what his "companion" of 30+ years thinks about the European vacation? He seems absent of honor and quite adept at deception by omission.

I'm sure it would be hard to find anyone eligible to be a Supreme Court Judge that doesn't know "Massey" / Don Blankenship...

Everybody in WVa knows Massey bought Brent Benjamin a place as a judge. It's obvious Don Blankenship is friends with Massey and doesn't care for Starcher???

The point being those justices should refrain from publicly saying anything about Massey or being seen with anyone connected. Their careers must not be important to them if they don't stop showing "bias - for good or bad about Massey". Those are the only three that has been so public about their feelings for Massey and either being friend or foe!!!! So all three should recuse themself from every case involving Massey. Past closed cases should be revisited also.

Gosh a kindergarden student could figure that out !!!!(or a least junior in high school) haha

I suppose Starcher had a right to feel threatened by Don Blankenship after the Brent (buy in) as I believe I read someplace that he indicated Starcher was next??

On the Today show, mention was made about a book by John Grisham titled the APPEAL - regarding corruption in the Supreme Court and there is a possibility it is based on this whole Massey situation. Wow

Yes you are right about Blanken-ship "going after" Starcher . From article :

Starcher wrote. "For example, he has said he will be 'targeting' me in the next election if I run.

There was a lot of talk about the words Starcher used " horse puckey" . Probably should have used good ol common "bull-shit" .

Margaret Workman is running for Supreme court again - I don't know her personally but a political "bigshot" destroyed my career and caused me to retire early and the word was SHE WAS HIS CLOUT at that time??. I know it appears to be a small matter compared to Massey - but this "big shot" is an attorney that has cases before the supreme court and HE HAD AN AGENDA when he hit Worker's Comp - one which was to destroy a very very rich Logan County Attorney who represented claimants. And he was indeed able to find some dirt on him and the man pulled prison time but he's still a very very rich person. So I just wonder who the favor was for when" he got after the attorney in Logan" - and does he still have favors coming?

Did the attorney deserve to go to prison? Who were the claimants working for ? Does bigshot have " Massey" cases before the court?

Appears that the W Va Supreme Court has all the makings for a great "soap opera" - that's sad considering the 'power" they have and how the misuse of that "power' can destroy peoples lives.

Yes, the attorney in Logan did plead guilty to some charges - point being many attorneys broke laws and standards of legal ethics and the AGENDA to go after one very rich man seems "a plot" to me.

Most of the claimants this attorney in Logan represented were working for coal companies and the attorneys who represented the coal companies were in collusion with him to NOT FIGHT cases if the majority of the percentage of the permanent totals were to be taken from the "slush fund set up for bankrupt companies to ensure the claimants still got paid" (another reason WC went broke.) Now as to this collusion, I have NO PROOF AT ALL - just using common sense!!!!

But the "bigshot" had the clout to go after attorneys that represented big coal companies for that - and did not do it hmmm.

With me, I was a peon - a supervisor in the Legal Division who tried to keep the unit I was in charge of up and running while the BIGSHOT was on a mission to change things - which actually made the processes worse needed to finalize a litigated claim. Nonetheless, a prominent attorney in West Virginia told me personally he felt this"big shot" was out to get me, etc. etc.-(doesn't matter now, I'm happy to be retired but with Margaret running again for Supreme Court - I don't want to see that "big shot" in power of state offices anyplace as he eventually got fired when she was no longer a judge) I'll be curious if she wins to see what happens.

Oh and this bigshot - NEVER ONCE asked about Massey claims in litigation and any conflict with trial examiners, etc. that was handled as usual by my staff from past instructions, and since he is still a practicing attorney, it's possible he may be involved with Massey cases somehow before the Supreme Court - but as Margaret's campaign comments about bringing back ethics and a good name to the Supreme Court, I'd say she's not in favor of Massey... Probably just taking advantage of it to get elected again maybe and has no concerns either way??

The Logan attorney was targeted, and what a shame. They wanted to strip him of his political clout. I suppose it is okay for Don Blankenship to buy at least 2 seats on the WV State Supreme Court, shovel untold fortunes into Judges and magistrates campaigns, and essentially buy enough power to control the outcome of any court cases involving Massey. I am sickened by our U.S. Attorneys for picking and choosing what constitutes vote buying. Blankenship and Buck Harless buy untold political candidates. They personally front the money for donations through employees, friends, etc. Look at the campaign finance forms for Mingo and Logan Counties. Follow the money trail. It's that simple!!!

Truly is a sad situation . Don't know anything about Buck Harless so I don't know if he can be put in same "pork barrel" as Blankenship .

This is another example of why people outside the state make fun of W.V. Where else would this type of garbage be allowed to carry on day after day and year after year. Massey and Blankenship are the dirtest and most corrupt people in this country. I can't wait until the day they go belly up....

Don't think laughing is the word to describe what has taken place in West Virginia . However only the people can cause the change to rid the state of corruption and make miners' live safer . Union and non union miners and families have to unite and vote out the corrupt or demand their resignations . In addition ONLY the miners can improve their work places by reporting all violations . Only takes one to KILL -How many miners is acceptable?

Sleibhin a Fed Judge told a court house full of concerned citizens in Buchanan Co. Va( after he had passed judgement and placed almost all the board of supervisors for Buchanan and several construction companies to jail) that until a new mind set is brouth forth on the voting citizens that things will not change. His reasoning being that what is know as the coon dog schandal in which federal money was spent after a flood washed out a place called hurley va. the citizens will vote for the candiate that will pave my drive way build my bridge and in other words whats in it for me. that is the problem with southwest VA southern west va and southern penn. and eastern ky and eastern tenn. all think with there a$$es and not their head or hearts. What in it for me. and don and massey goes on and so will judge starcher don lackey.

Bill : No problem . I knew who you meant . The "political problem" is common in other parts of the world . I do believe at one time, in British Columbia, you knew an election was close at hand when the paving crews showed up to re-pave or pave the section of highway through the town and a mile on either side of it .

For those not aware the "coon dog scandal" :We know that times of adversity often bring out the best of human nature and allow individuals to transcend their day-to-day limitations and to rise above all expectations to serve the greater good of their fellow men. Well… this just didn’t happen in Buchanan County. Indeed, the opposite happened. The great adversity that afflicted the citizens of Buchanan County in the Hurley community during the Great Flash Flood of 2002 brought out the worst of human nature… greed, betrayal of public trust and corruption... at least in the hallowed halls of the Buchanan County Courthouse
