Yesterday was a sad day a Highland 9 mine in West KY, 327 union brothers and sisters left in scock. Our own union officers telling us that it wasn.t so. Our own union officals did not know CECIL had sold us out. The Ill basin coal mines have just been wrote off. We pay dues and strikefund and what for, nothing I guess. We thank our union brothers and sister across the country that fought so had for us, o that s right they forgot about us, still hoping in KY that this is a dream. Our forefathers that fought so hard for a union would hang there heads in same. Most of the nation will never no that we were left sold out for the rest of our union brothers.

Maverick, I work on the Wabash mine here in Illinois LU 1791, Our contract is up March 31 07 Our last contract we voted in a mou and took a pay cut to keep the mine open under R.A.G. COAL CO. Since then r.a.g. sold the mines to Foundation coal, Their 2 longwall mines in Pa are under the old National aggreement, We all want to be under the new National aggreement but we cant find out nothing, All 3 mines have posters up every where at the mines that say one company one contract! Why cant Cecil tell these coal companys every UMWA mine gets the new conntract or we all WALK! till we do have the national aggreement! ONE UNION ONE CONTRACT! We are the UNITED MINEWORKERS not the DIVIDED MINEWORKERS! We should have never started this different contract for different mines! Different times for the contract to expire and such, Maverick since your contract is not up till the end of the year is it possible they are still talking? And you might yet get the new aggreement? I sure hope so, Thats what we are going for, We should be hearing something soon ill let you know what goes on here in Southern Illinois!

Foundation has announced that they are stopping work on our new slope that would go to a 20 year block of coal, said they lost to much money last year, Bullshit Are they trying to say when they started building the slope they didnt know they were losing money? Trying to scare us into taking something less than the National agreement, I for one will not vote for nothing less, They can lock the doors and ill go somewhere else, Im not working for peanuts anymore!I still say Cecil should pull out every UMWA Mine in the nation until every UMWA mine gets the National contract! If we dont stick together the union is done for! Then what will happen to the wages and benefits?

Dont trust the Coal Mines Foundation Coal is a VERY DIRTY COMPANY. How I Know it is. They do not turn in accidents to the federal but they did get fined $50,000 on one accident they did not turn in keep a eye on them They do not like contracts.

I heard yesterday from our GM in Pineville that Ben Statler has signed, but the union is holding back now because they don't want the contractors in the mine in Oakgrove.

If we worked for Consol it would be a different story. They are a coal mining company, Foundation is nothing but a bunch of investors wanting to make money. Some pencil pusher will decide if its better to pay our fellow members at Wabash accordingly or say we close the doors it's not profitable.Consol has taken the less profitable mines and kept them open cause they now how to work through mining problems. We all know, those of us who work underground that conditions can change drastically at anygiven time. We at Cumerland hear lots of rumors about whats happening a Wabash but they are just rumors. The company has done some strang things to confuse us like paying the new contract clothing allowance, and are medical is under the new contract standards. Brothers we at Cumberland stand behind you At Wabash. Let us know whats going on at Wabash.

Thank You Beltman, Im am glad to hear that! All we got right now is rumors, Last i checked we was more than 10,000 tons over what they want to run for the year, We run coal here despite the way they run this mine! They say they have stopped work on the slope but they are not going to fill it in, They are still ventilating it and people are still over there at night when i go to work, They tell us they lost 24 Million last year at Wabash, Do you think they did not know they were losing money when they started the slope last year?!I am a classified roofbolter making 17.91 a hour, So i say National Aggreement or nothing, They can close the doors, Have some of those investers come on down and see if they could even turn on a roofbolter, There is talk of closing the mine and keep on sinking the slope and open back up non-union, if they do that we had better go to War or the Union is done for! UNITED WE STAND DIVIDED WE FALL! U.M.W.A!

to pinnoak foreman ___ thanks for the update. I am glad that Statler finally signed, but by his signing and the union not agreeing he obviously changed the contract away from the original national contract. My personal opinion I feel unskilled contract workers on the ground or underground is a DANGER to the Miners that are employed there. Praying for everyone that still does not have a contract. Including the Pinnoak resources employees.
