I am a newly published author with Xulon and am sad very sad at what I'm finding out about the company, but have hopes that God will vindicate you all and cause them to do what is right, and that is pay when our books sale. I have a question, if some one can answer please do, is there a way to stop them from publishing and saleing your book, once it goes into production, and switch to another publisher altogether? Thanks

Like some previous posters I went to the headquarters and was dealt with so badly, told I was stupid and had no business showing up but should have called. When the "manager" came out and pointed his finger in my face I lost it! He suffered a fractured jaw and I had two stitches above my eye but the police wouldn't charge me when I told them what happened and the UPS guy verified it. These people are no good scum. Beware.~ Franklin

Oh, Good Heavens! I hope you are alright and being Christian, we must also hope the gentleman manager is healing! This is all so unfortunate. Please no more fights!

Ask, pester, independent Christian media to look into this. The light of threatened exposure can dispel darkness where the appeal to shear righteousness too often fails. If half of what is posted here is true it is a business equivalent of "Christian" sexual scandels. It seems reasonable that a true Christian business would welcome the opportunity to exonerate itself among those they serve, rather than risk otherwise. If we cannot police ourselves, we invite secular shame. If we cannot do that we are defeated already (I Corinthians 6:1-8).

I was naive. I just learned that Evangelical Press Association members have a code of ethics that says, get this, members will "not do or say anything that hurts the brands of other members." I believe that Salem Communications is one of those members, so there goes an independent Christian Press! "Brands..."? I wonder if they are also pledged to police each other on matters of fraud and deception? Maybe one of those members can tell this group how that works? Asking them to join the forum would apparently be an "ethics" violation. Ask one yourself, tell others, and maybe that's a start.

After coming across this blog page, I have cancelled my contract to publish with Xulon Press(after paying $2000.00) I'd rather suffer this initial loss than go through what these have gone thru--I'm praying for another company to publish my book, CK

I really appreciate this very informative site. I am currently researching places for publication. I had not ever considered self-publishing AND NOW I SEE WHY! Thanks for your frankness. I pray to God that these criminals reap the seeds that they've sowed in a VERY VERY fast and efficient way! Amen!

The best way to test the honesty of Xulon Press is to have someone you know purchase a copy of your book through Xulon and then keep a copy of the receipt. That way you will know the date of the purchase. It usually takes some time for the purchase to show up on your royalty statement.

It worked for me. Xulon recorded the purchase and I received the royalty.

Maybe Xulon is honest after all.

So who is a good alternative to Xulon?

I thank God he was directing me to google xulon press. I was going to go with them because they said they was the number one christian book press. But, I prayed about it first. To make sure this is the publishing company God wanted for his book. The bible tells us we parishes due to the lack of knowledge. We would not drive a car without knowing how to properly do so. So we need to guard the things of God. Each person on here should have done research and re checked with God. When you are going to buy or rent an apartment you go check out the neighborhood after business hours. To see if that is the best neighborhood for you to stay in. So why can’t we do that and then some with the things of God. I do sympathize with you, and what has happen. But know all things work for the good for those who love the Lord are called according to his holy purpose. You might not have the money from your book sales but the books are still been sold. Which means the message God gave you is still been sent out and reaching those it need to. And this little forum has brought men and women of God together that have the same goal to share the gospel of Christ through writing. So I say shake the dust from your feet and move forward and use these as a tool to make sure Gods words go forth. God has used Xulon to encourage his messengers’ to go forth with his will, along with strength, and help. Because at least one person on here has got blessed with a tool on how to self- publish their book or what other companies to look out for. So, it looks like to me; God turn what was meant for evil around for good. If each person would each commit to doing research on how to self- publish and post. That will help us all to reach that goal of delivering Gods word forth. And not allow this press company to get the victory. I will post on self publishing tips in a couple of days, from now to help.
Please be encouraged. Also note prayer is your weapon so use it. Remember we whistle not against flesh and blood. this a spritual fight.

I am so confused! I have written a book but don't know where or who to turn to for direction. Does self publishing protect copyright or do still need to register with library of congress? It seems you can't trust these fake Christian whom you would think would fear the Lord to cheat fellow believers. If you self publish how do you find someone to market your book ,distribute, keep records of sells, etc.

This is a letter of thanks and an overall summary of the excellent services I received in every area of my Xulon publishing agreement.
After initial contact with Xulon Press via e-mail on December 27th 2011, I was contacted the very next business day via e-mail from Chad Nykamp. I was connected to Peter Lopez, whom became my publishing consultant. Peter was very professional and explained the details of the various publishing packages very well.
On December 28th 2011, I entered into an agreement with Xulon Press. Peter addressed all of my immediate questions and concerns quickly and efficiently.
On December 29th 2011, Sandy Owen set me up to my author center link, and introduced me to my author service rep. Jose Medina. I enjoyed my brief contact with Jose. Things we running so smoothly, that not much contact was necessary. The times that I did need to touch base with Jose, he was always very pleasant, helpful and professional.
Near the end of January 2012, I received my new kindle Fire in perfect shipping condition, delivered right to my front door. Shortly thereafter, I received a brief follow-up e-mail from Sandy Owen inquiring about the delivery of my Kindle Fire. Very impressive!
I started writing my manuscript on January 1st 2012, and submitted my files on February 13th 2012. During this writing time span, I was able to consider “add-on” options regarding the marketing of my book. I decided to go with the “e-book” option, and the “London Book Fair” option. I’m so glad I chose these options. Jason was very helpful and knowledgeable in these areas.
As an unexpected bonus for submitting my manuscript in such a timely manner, much to “even my amazement,” I was given a “free rush” option!
On Friday February 17th 2012, I submitted my suggested art work cover ideas, and back cover info, along with my corrected manuscript blunders (ha), and by Tuesday February 21st 2012, I was sent the “art work proofs” and final sign off for the manuscript. Thank God for spell check, if you know what I mean!
The graphic arts department did a fantastic job designing my book covers. Wow! Thank you so much. Also, the formatting of the book was done incredibly well, along with the e-book layout. You guys rock!

Exactly one month to the day, on March 13th 2012, my 15 free copies were delivered to my front door in perfect shipping condition. The packaging was done very well, with sufficient protective wrappings and air-sack fillers. Thank you shipping department!
Around the same time of receiving my free promotional book copies, I noticed that my book was already posted on the Xulon book store site, Amazon.com , Amazon.ca, Barnesandnoble.com , and on over 40 international sites around the world! I was the first to buy my own “e-book” from Amazon.ca and download it onto my Kindle. How about that? Ha!
The over-all quality of the book-including the binding, covers, brilliance of colors, velvety book pages, crispness of text print, and fit and finish was exceptional for on-demand-printing. Another job, well done.
On the 20th of March 2012, my customized press release (part of my publishing agreement) was ready! Again, another job well done by Sabine Khouri and crew!
On March 16th 2012, I placed my first book order with Jason for an amount of 251 books, giving me 50 promotional freebies-for a total of 301 books delivered to my front door, again in perfect shipping condition. My books arrived on March 26th 2012, in only seven business days. Great service again!
When I brought the first copy of my book to work, one of my senior managers was so thrilled that “someone at work” actually got published; he presented my book in the morning boardroom meeting. Most of these people are not Christians, but non-the-less, they were thrilled with my book. The next day my manager brought in a beautiful lemon cake that his wife baked, just so that we could celebrate!
Just today, I am happy to report that I have been privileged to sell 15 books (with more people asking) at work in just the span of an hour. Again, these are un-churched people. I praise God for what He is doing in my life, and you are all a-part of it.
In closing, although Xulon Press has done all that can be reasonably done to promote an authors book, the onus is still on the author to get out there and do as much self promotion as possible. Yes, that takes work, but oh, what fun! God Bless you all!

" Xulon Press will not tell their Authors that particular cost. They SHOULD! "

No, they shouldn't. Does your grocery store tell you homw much they paid for the tomatoes? Does the guy who mows you r lawn tell you how much he paid for the mower? Does the doctor tell you how much he paid for each machine he uses?

I have been talking with a Xulon representative and I sent him a list of questions via email and he would never return my request for answers. I AM SO Glad that I ran across this forum before doing any business with them. The representative was excited to hear from me until I told him my book was not finished yet. After I told him that his tone changed and he was uninterested with me at this point. All these complaints have helped me to decide not to use them.

Self Publishers are not a serious route in most cases. The author has to promote the book for the most part, not to mention paying up front huge fees. Today the way to go is e-books. If you have to pay anything it's for someone to edit it professionally, art work, etc. Buyer Beware!

I published a book with Xulon Press in 2006. I have never received a single royalty check from them. They claim they have sent checks to me (I have never moved or changed my address) and they have no proof that they sent payments. I have never received a 1099 from them either. I know that many have purchased my book because some have contacted me and our local Barnes and Noble purchased 50 books in early 2007. I have a lawyer working on it, but Xulon just continues to lie.
<quoted text>
That is amazing. I have sold hundreds of books to friends, denominations, etc and Xulon told me the SAME thing. I have not moved. I have five phone lines open five days a week, and 33 employees with only ONE person who receives and distributes the mail. Yet, i have never received ONE royalty check from Xulon in TWO YEARS. I gave them over 5,000.00 dollars for bogus "packages." This company is certainly corrupt. RUN!

As wrote awhile back, one of the best ways of testing Xulon is to have a friend purchase one of your books directly from Xulo and have him/her give you a copy of the purchase order.

Then wait and see if the sale shows up on Xulon's royalty statement. I did this and, lo and behold, the sale turned up and I was paid.

That doesn't say that every sale is registered.
