RestingEasyNHollywood wrote: 'Get Over It' and all others that post here, please attend a few Foundation meetings and try to get involved. Change is coming to Mt. Holly, already has. It is not and never will be the small town we or most of us grew up in. It really is still a good place to live but people need to step up and pitch in with ideas of what direction we want it to move. Sitting back and complaining and not knowing the real truth about all topics that happen in our town is counterproductive. Please step forth and bring any and all friends to not only Foundation meetings but also Council meetings. You might be surprised that you and any positive ideas are welcome with open arms. We are all family, friends and neighbors here. Family, friends and neighbors united will defeat negativity! Is negativity, disagreeing with you and the MH Community Foundation on how my tax payer money is spent? The perception that many people have of the MH Community Foundation is of an organization that has certain agendas and these agendas profit some of its members. Take the greenways for example, yes, it would be nice to have greenways in our town, but if you haven't looked lately, MH is not that wealthy of a town. It is going to cost thousands of taxpayer dollars to pay for the upkeep of these greenways. It is like the office supply companies that giveaway inkcartridges, the cartridge really doesn't cost them that much, but when you have to keep refilling or replacing them, that is where they get you. I guess what I am saying is that it seems the Foundation wants all of these nice things for MH, but it wants all taxpaers to foot the cost. I don't know this, but I would assume that your are an upper middle class person who is fianancially well off. Correct me if I am wrong. However, there are many people in this town who are struggling to make ends meet. They don't need an organization to raise their cost of living in this town any more than it already has been. Please don't use all of the economic development thing on me. We gave the White Water Park, one million plus, we spent 13 million on a Citizens Center that still doesn't have one retail space rented, and probably never will, we spent over two million on a streetscape, that we need to pay for. In the end, if you want greenways, you and the foundation pay for them. If I use one, I will drop you a donantion. By the way, the person who you hired to be in charge is from New York, nothing against New Yorkers, we welcome all who come, but most people will resent her telling us how we should improve our town when she did not grow up here.

The City of MH can't even cut its own grass at its Town Hall, what makes you think they can maintain a greenway? Oh, that's right, they will contract that out as well. Geesh!

'Four Cents' you prove my point for me in your post. "Perception, one million plus and 13 million" proves to me that you have not tried to find the truth about what is going on in town. Come out and visit with the Foundation, learn for yourself what is going on instead of buying fabricated tells from others. On another front, "upper middle class person who is financially well off," you would be dead wrong! All I want is Mt. Holly to continue to be the same great place where I grew up, not just for me but my friends, family and neighbors. Come on friend give it a try, what do you have to lose?

Doesn't the grass at the City Hall look trashy? And to think we have a code enforcer. What a joke.

Please enlighten us about the one million dollars that will be given to the WhiteWater Park. It really would be over one million when one considers that it could have been used to pay down our town's debt, considering the interest that would have been saved. Not sure about the $13 million on the Citizens Center, when one does an analysis of what MH lost by buying the building from A&E, in other words, no more property tax, no more water or sewwer, who knows? Thanks for your post. Will look forward to your response.

'Jackson P' 1)Whitewater- one million has not been spent and you nor I knows if it will be 2)Citizen's Center- you admit yourself that you don't know 3)Perception (per 'My Four Cents')- how active and/or vocal have you been with Council or the Foundation? My whole point here is not to be argumentative rather to encourage the fine folks of our town to get involved. Please, get out and join in. But keep this in mind, not everything will go to your liking all the time and you may end up disappointed on occasion as I have. Take care!

One million has been pledged and if you don't think the WhiteWater Park is not going to take the rest of the Mount Holly Tax pledged money, free money, you are fooling yourself.
The place has been open for several years and has not paid one red cent towards the principal of the loans it took out. It is staying afloat, operating wise, by the foolish pledge of the taxpayer monies of Mount Holly, Belmont, Gastonia, Charlotte, and Mecklenburg County.
As for the Citizen Center, can you tell me when the retail space will be leased?

JP, neither of us can say I'm fooling myself or that you are completely right on Whitewater. I do know one thing, we can drop the discussion because we would be beating a dead horse (deal done). As for the Citizen Center, I don't agree with the idea of retail space. And since I'm not on Council and don't own a Ouija Board I can't answer that. But, again, I'm not here to argue but to encourage concerned folks like yourself to become involved and let your voices be heard. Trust me, they aren't being heard here. Take care!

I have no problem with the MH Community Foundation as long as their actions and influence doesn't raise my taxes. Moreover, please do not give me the spiel about making our town attractive for businesses to come in and increase our tax base. I believe we have spend enough money on attacting businesses.
If the Foundation wants Greenways, then let them pay for them and let them maintain them. They can hire the same lawn service that the city hires to cut its lawn at the Citizens Center. I believe the owner is a member of the Foundation.
