this is a very strong comment, and I think you mean strongwilled persons, or those with strong character that forces their wills to return to topix, to not let certain persons get away with certain things, without challenge. I call the topix forum on topix topix hell. I have since learned that several other forums have similar characteristics. Others are not quite as bad.

topix has changed its terms of service now, so that the rule is that there are no rules. there are no stated prohibitions about discourtesy and worse. there is the one warning, that topix would cooperate with a judge, if the judge in a lawsuit asks topix to provide the real names and contact addresses for topix commenters being sued for libel. Obviously it will cost someone more than twenty bucks to hire a lawyer and bring a lawsuit for libel.
Thus it is even more a case that the poor will suffer abuse, and the rich can get away with abusing others, and can also get away with persecuting others who merely criticize them, by bringing a harassing lawsuit. The poor will very likely not be able to find attorneys willing to take a libel case on a contingency basis, where they get paid only out of the settlement once they win the case and damages are awarded. It would be too iffy to take such a case. An attorney would not feel so confident that a jury would decide in favor of the person who has been attacked, because there is an attitude among many persons that folks should not really mind what is being said about them, but should just ignore it. It is expressed in the old saying: sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me.

I notice that the blogger uses the term bottom feeders. I would like to know where that term originated as applied to topix, and what it means as originally intended, and as others interpret it. I regard it as applying to hate speech, and to hostile and/or insulting obscenity or vulgarity or other vicious insults. I think that some folks do not mind vulgarity or obscenity, and may even use it casually themselves, so how would one find out whether a potential juror thought it was OK to use such language? So topix has deliberately opened the door wide to great abuse, by commenters who wish to be abusive. It certainly violates the spirit if not the letter of the topix so called agreement with the AGs.

One can see how resentful Tolles was of having to reach some agreement with them, in the thread called something like: When Attorneys General Attack, on this forum, in the article it refers to. One can also learn more about his attitudes in a blog on the Hartford courant alumni association site. google those four words, and the name Chris tolles, and you will find it.

By trouble he means folks who question or criticize him. that is what is meant by trolls when most folks use the word. it is a useless word. It is often merely an accusation against any commenter who criticizes the person who uses the word troll, whenever the person is not able to defend himself against the criticism itself. Those who often cry that they are being attacked or libelled, use it as an excuse to attack and libel others. Dupage is an example of this. It is a very powerful tool when used right.
