Yep, that pretty much proves what a retard you are.

In fact the military DID give cigarettes free to service members in the past; they included them in their rations, which is why so many WWI & WWII vets died of lung cancer.

Oh yeah, excellent plan.....

Now your talking. Then we close all the fast food places and ban vending machines, R rated movies and motorcycles.

Because it is harmful to the troops and the taxpayer shouldn't be subsidizing alcohol & tobacco use. Those who choose to smoke or drink can still purchase the products off base.

OK, we subsidize on base movie theaters, fast food joints, commissaries, drug stores etc. Eliminating alcohol and tobacco is just a progressive feel good move. Why not stop selling condoms, sex causes issues among many young men and women. You can say you did your part to stop those problems but in reality you did nothing. Some will make good choices, some will not. It is not for you or I to make that decision for another adult, it is none of our damn business.

Because alcohol & tobacco are proven addictive substances which cause harm to the service member when used as directed.

Selling condoms PREVENTS harm to service members- i.e. stds & unintended pregnancies.

I do agree that fast food should not be on base either- we actually had a McDonalds right in one of the hospitals I worked at, and they sold cigarettes in the hospital PX as well- but fast food isn't actually subsidized; you pay the same for a value meal on base as off base.

Taking away tobacco will stop smoking as well as taking away condoms will stop sex. Sorry, it's life.

Never said it will stop service members from smoking; just that taxpayers shouldn't be subsidizing it.

Ok, AAFES and the NEX are NOT tax payer subsidized. They are DoD Agencies that generate their own budgets through sales and 2/3 of their profits go towards the NAF/MWR programs- That is their mission. Anytime a new AAFES/NEX is built or renovated- no taxpayer dollars are used.

That being said, I agree that readily available alcohol in the shopette is the leading cause to the increase of young Soldiers/Sailors/Airmen/Marine s having alcohol related incidents.

When I joined the Army in 1987, the ONLY place you could buy alcohol was the class VI store. I recently walked into the shopette (gas station) on Fort Leavenworth. There were 4 aisles of convenience store type product and ELEVEN aisles of hard liquor, plus the beer cooler.

That is ridiculous.

A sin tax only helps those who can afford it .

I would rather subsidize alcohol and tobacco and ban deficit funded war.

The cost you are talking about is peanuts in the grand scheme of things and donuts can be just as harmful.
