So people that have self control should be punished because your Mother in Law can't control herself?

Well now maybe we should ban Food because so many can't control themselves. See how that sounds?

I don't think they need to be banned but I do think they need to be regulated. Seems the odds aren't like they would be in Nevada where they keep a close eye on gambling.

First off I dont play the machines but I know a few people that do . I think it should be up to the people what they do with their money. They call it gambling but yet is that not what you do when you play the all mighty NC lottery? Congress gets on my freakin nerves so bad. Land of the free yeah ok if thats what they want to call it. Free for them to do whatever they wanna do and get away with it. Who the he** are they to be able to tell people what they can and cant do with their money. Bout like making white liquor our money grubbing hand cant get it so lets ban it to

the government say they are for the people and by the people well if thats so why can't we have a voice in this matter also. I like Bev Perdue but she is a traitor and can't be trusted. She should check with the people before she go signing something. These politicians comes to us when they want our votes well why can't they come to us when matters are been discuss. They should not have that right to stop us from using our money to do what we want to do. We should be allowed to vote on this and all matters when it come to something like this. I do know one thing if the government pocket was getting fat on this they would not ban it. Well snce they are going to ban this they should ban the school lottery tickets also, because
people are going through the same scenario with them tickets. Those lottery tickets are a rip off any way. They give you packs and packs of cards and ther are more losing cards in them than winning cards. I used to b addicted to them cards. I have spent so much money on them and lost. I call the lottery place and many others have also about how they are sending out bundles of losing cards what'a a dollar or two nothing.

So you think its the machines fault she spends her money on this. If she can't control her spending then she needs to loose her money.
I bet the are a number of people who could say the same thing about the NC lottery. So why not ban this to...I'll tell you why, its because it is controled by the state and the as long as the state is getting your money they don't care if you eat, pay your bills or what ever.

Its people that think the way you do that has put this country in its current condition...Lets take away everything from everyone just because a few can't control their own habits.
Why not ban alcohol...i know people that spend all their money on that...
You are a f...ing IDIOT and so is everyone else who thinks they should of been banned.

If I wanted to gamble I could find something somewhere to blow my cash! I have bet $100.00 on what color gum would come from a gumball machine. Bev you may not be the correct person for the job, resign please!

The reason it was banned is that owners make thousands of dollars a week, in cash, no trail, no way to collect taxes. Taxes are how government works and pays for streets, traffic lights, lighting, roads, bridges, post offices, schools. The machines are expensive but many machines are owned by outside investors usually from up north and the money doesn't stay here. The industry claimed that thousands of people will lose jobs, but it doesn't take but one person to run a room with twenty machines. The owners of the machines make a killing and the money, except for the owner goes somewhere else. They made the right decision.

Why mandate what working citizens what to do with their money. All forms of paid entertainment IE. (strip clubs, bars) should be banned as well. Mostly retired people and just people looking to relax after a hard day's work are playing and can afford to play. I do not see internet sweepstakes being any illegal than purchasing a lottery ticket which the odds of winning is less than playing internet sweepstakes. That's just forcing people to go out of state and spend money that could benefit our state government .

the case then THAT is what they should have reported. Not all of this "We are doing it for YOU the Tax Payer)..I stand my my thoughts. Gangsters, nothing more.

You hit the nail on the head: Bev Purdue has already taken funds from the "Education Lottery" to balance her budget, while teachers around the state are laid off or forced to take cuts in pay. It isn't enough to ask her to resign, we need to TAKE ACTION of some kind to GET HER OUT before we have another "Easley Fiasco" on our hands. She does not have the interests of the people of the state of North Carolina at heart. LIBERTARIAN is the way to go. Dems and 'Pubs are ALL THE SAME.

I don't play the games, but I work at a Sweepstakes Cafe. Honestly, some of the people who come in here to play are addicts and probably should seek some sort of counseling for addiction, but... it's no less of a difference than some of the people who i see buying lottery tickets. People come in here and spend anywhere from $20-$1000, but I have seen people spend that exact same amount on Lottery tickets only to end up with half to none of there money back. So really the addiction doesn't just stop at Sweepstakes. Now the next choice of course would be to regulate and tax the games, but I am not sure we can even trust our government with tax dollars anymore.. Seeing as all that money in the education lottery has seemed to have disappeared with all these teachers being cut. Really in all reality we shouldn't be banning these games, we should be banning our government lol. When they get critisized for making stupid decisions they respond that there are alot of issues that they are facing and they made the decision they feel fits best.. but really they make the decision that everyone aggrivates them about constantly... i think they just pass laws to stop hearing the whining and complaining. If you don't play the sweepstakes games then why care? It's not your money... let the ones wasting there money waste it. We cannot be responsible for everybody else. Another thing I've heard recently is that banning the sweepstakes will reduce crime.. seriously? haha don't even get me started. Regardless if it's a sweepstakes cafe, gas station, bank, wal-mart, burger king, or pawn shop, there is going to be crime... lol the only way to reduce crime is to hire police officers to patrol every section of your county/ city 24/7 non stop riding around patrolling... Really I am fed up with the way both federal and state government handle things. But when it's time to elect and vote officials and public office holders, it's hard to weed out the lies from the truth. They say "We're not going to do this, this, and this.." but the turn around when elected and do the exact opposite of what they say they would... Maybe someday we'll have a government that not only cares about the people, but also cares about how there decisions effect there own appearance.. because so many politicians and law makers have made themselves look like complete idiots and morons.. That's all I got to say.

The only reason the government is banning them is because more people will buy the lottery and scratch off tickets and the state can get their cut of the money.

That's my take on it too. Someone made the point earlier that the owners of these machines don't have to report the income and I can imagine how this cash-strapped state feels about missing out on any chance for revenue.

Government is already too big and growing every day. They have no business trying to give the public directives on how to live their lives. For those who are addicted to gambling, they will often move from one addiction to the other. I have seen people give up cigarettes but add food. I have seen people give up drugs but take on sex. People with addictive and impulsive personalities will always find something to fit their need. For those who enjoy this and have the self-discipline to manage it without it managing them, why should they be denied?
