I'm surprised they didn't close it sooner. Digital photos are so much better and more cost-effective. Who needs a bunch of print photos sitting in a drawer taking up precious space in the house?

Digital is the way to go.

For prints, the best deal I've seen is at http://photo.walgreens.com

Upload photos, order prints.

If you want to send prints to distant relatives, you can specify the nearest store, and arrange mail delivery or pickup.

Not surprised. I used to work there when the place was really busy and thank goodness I don't work there anymore. I just feel bad for the old friends that do still work there. There are a couple of "lifers" there that have done nothing else but work there their entire lives but technology wiped the business out.

I use to work there also, I also feel sorry for all the "lifers" who work there. Im just happy i got out when I did. I think another thing that hurt the company was the amount of overtime they paid out. I remember sometimes working up to 65 hrs a week, thats alot of extra money going out.

This is typical. Some low-level worker in a dying industry, too stupid to have recognized the trends of the past two decades,-- blames management for the company going down the crapper.

Is there any wonder why companies don't want to operate in the LV ?!!!

First off Dennis HACK...I worked there before I went to college which by the way I graduated with a degree in Engineering and I now work for a Fortune 500 company making more money than I ever dreamed so save your Bullsh*t little story about ex workers. Your probably some un-educated welfare grubbing loser that's mouching off my hard earned money...say what you want about me but you couldn't lace up my shoes even if I let you!

I also worked there during Christmas breaks during college. I was very happy to put in the 9pm to 9am shift and generate some fast money over a short 3 week break for book/pizza/beer money for the 2nd semester.

I used to dream sequences of numbers from all the numerical sorting of stores.

Just another reason why the Lehigh Valley has to get serious about what it wants to be when it grows up from thinking it is a little sleepy village and 19th century industrial center to seeing that it is at epicenter of 3.4 million population in the 9 counties that include or surround Lehigh County. It needs to think like it is an MSA of 3.4 million and compete against Philadelphia and not be directed by Philadelphia politicians.

I am one of the so called "lifers", Qualex/guardian was not one of the best places to work...but there are worse..it paid the bills for a long time. Long summer hours, long holiday hours and deadlines is what qualex was all about...but...the consumer demanded pictures back overnight so this is what we did. Technology is not what did us in, we did work for cvs.com , photoworks and the like..downloaded from websites and printed on laser printers and then shipped right to the customers door, we have the technology, no, it was profitability that did us in....Today the consumers options for pictures is endless, one hour mini labs, kiosks, home printers and the like, along with the rising costs of maintaining all of the couriers that brought us work and delivered to all the retail outlets we serviced. In the end, Kodak pulled the plug because of profitability, bottom line. I think I speak for the majority of workers that are still left at qualex, Don't feel sorry for us, we look forward to ending this chapter in our careers and starting over again.

Dennis,
You are correct, as digital is the way to go. However, the service you described from Walgreen's is performed here at Qualex. We have been producing digital photos for the past decade. No one knows yet who will print your online photos after we shut down. Walgreen's will have to find another photofinisher to handle it. Sorry.

I worked there for 20 years, the money and benefits were very good and certainly paid all of my bills. It was alot better there than when I worked in a textile factory.

As for the long bashing of Qualex and it's management group, not all were perfect but as someone that has worked at other places, all in all, Qualex treated the employees with fairness and dignity. Many parents put a roof over their families head, and provided a good standard of living.
Employees were dedicated to providing an excellent product and service.

What are you talking about? Have you graduated the 4th grade yet Hillbilly DumbDuck? Typical Redneck coming on here running your mouth about something you know nothing about. Let me guess you got some time on your hands. You took a break from eating mayonnaise sandwiches and banging your sister so you feel the need to come on here and show everyone you have a 4th grade education. Let me guess, the number of original teeth in your mouth are in the single digits…come on you know I’m right. You’re hating on me because I graduated college and have a good job? Put the Haterade down Hillbilly DumbDuck and get a hold of yourself. Don’t hate because someone bettered themselves. I made my point to someone that called Qualex workers low level and you feel the need to hate on me. If it makes you feel better go ahead. You just proved my theory that some people are put on this planet for my amusement.
I wasn't banging my sister...It was your mom. And love them mayonnaise sandwiches. A degree (online degree perhaps Mr. Educated and still clueless) doesn't mean you're better, just means you do less and get paid more. What do you do to help anyone but yourself all day long? People at Qualex worked HARD for years and made a decent living. Hard work has been replaced by mouse pushing, gotta check my Facebook retards who went to school instead of work because they can't figure out how to get off of mommies tit. I am proud of you. You got "better" but you're not cured. Hillbilly dumbduck? That's hysterical. Love ya Man
