NEWPORT-A Jefferson City resident was arrested Thursday morning at a Cocke County industry and charged with downloading and uploading images of minor children engaged in sexually explicit conduct for at least the past four years.

It was not known if Francisco Lopez Martin, of 1136 North Highway 92, in Jefferson City, was an employee of the industry, or just happened to be there when he was arrested.

Newport Police Department Chief Maurice Shults said he had heard that Martin was arrested around 11 a.m. on Thursday, but did not have much more information.

A federal grand jury on Tuesday named Martin in a three-count indictment.

so is he illegal or what? I don't understand the part about not known if he worked there or not...why else would he be there? If that's the case, it's sad that an educated person like myself can't get a job, but he can...

Its the people like this that needs to be locked up FOR LIFE never to be free again! These people dont get better! And yet we turn them loose in this country everyday. The sex offender registry is not doing what is was meant to do. They either dont register and go on to another town or they dont follow the terms of their probation only to abuse yet another child! I HaTe drugs but I would rather the system cut a few addicts loose than these pedophiles! If it were up to me there would be ZERO tolerance for child molesters! I would lock em up for life on first offense!

the thing is he was out 24 hours later signed a bound and out the door. but had to be back in today. the registry only works if they/you check it, I don't think Sonoco even runs a background check much less something like that

This guy was an engineer for the company. Pretty much a department head/ front office guy. Very smart, lot's of money, & to top it off, a family man. A case of people that know him being very shocked. This was really one of the last people you would expect to do something like this. But it just goes to show that even perverts sometimes have college degrees.
