I bought two chains both say on the clasp 14k and that is it. Did I buy fake?? They are heavy and look nice. I'm just wondering if saying only 14k is fake!

i have a ring that is yellow gold with 5 large diamonds. the band is stamped 18ct PLA1 or PLAI. what does that mean? band seems elegant, old. not quite antique.
the stones are unknown, look like diamonds, way to huge. did a scratch test- it scratched, not as well as my engagement ring. i looked or infractures. there was a 1 visible to the naked eye. a small black dot. stones fogged when dirty or 2-3 seconds. after i cleaned it with jewelry cleaner, i didn't notice any fog. however i cold see text when i had the ring upside down. the mount is quite large in the back. also the tip of the stones (the pointy part) are lat on purpose. it sparkles very similarly to my real diamond. anybody have any idea whether or not it is real? with out the suggestion of taking it to a jeweler. none in town. will go to the city next month, hopefully know a little more than. in the mean time the suspense is killing me

Ereal, SOunds like you have it figured out, One thing to check though when suspecting a fake, ALL links on real gold pieces will be sealed, open links indicate fake even more than a missing purity mark., As with your ppiece, Many manufacturers use "generic" findings,(clips/clasps), so havint the 14k mark on both ends is not really that rare.

but i went to cash converters (prawn shop) and he said its not real straight up so can any1 give me advice plz!!
Don't go to a chash converters take is to a shop that buys gold and they will test it and give you a quote, it may mark it a little but you will know if it is real or not. You do not have to sell to them.

Good luck

Is 777 marked gold worth anything?

Noodles, the 777 mark is that of the manufacturer/jeweler and not a purity mark.

Christina , Sounds like you have a sizing ring (size 6)You could acid test it, or have a local jewelry store look at it. Unfortunately, with no other markings, I can be of no more help.

I have a 14k yellow gold chain that I wear everyday, the clasp has faded but the chain hasn't, why has only the caps faded and not the chain. The clasp is stamped 14k Italy.

Howard, The alloy used on the clasp of your piece may be different from the alloy used on the chain, this could explain the difference in color. Also, as I have stated before, on 99% of all gold jewelry, the links are ALL completely closed with no splits in the links,(where the link opens). This is mostly due to the softness of gold, open links would come apart too easilly.
CHeck your links, and as long as they are sealed, you should be OK.
Hope this helps

I just got a ring for 25 cents out of the gum machine in the mall. It says "not real gold" Should I use the acid test? Last time I did, me and Jimmy Hendricks got the band back together.
No, really, some of you a dumber than a box of marbles. Actually, I think the marbles are smarter. Just send all you "Fake" gold to me at

Taint,
Unfortunately some people werent born with all of the knowledge of the universe as you apparantly were, so, they come to this page to LEARN so that they may KNOW in the future....In other words....Bettering themselves. If I actually believed that the address supplied was in fact correct, I'd gladly send you the contents of my cat's litterbox....There may be gold in there......Hell the cat is gold in color...Maybe everyone else would send you theirs!!!!
Maybe you should stop pretending to be such an arse?

Hope this helps
