Just bring it to your local jeweler. There are testing kits as well. With experience, one can immediately tell the difference.
Check out our vintage jewelry at well below market price. Unusual selections.

If it was 1oz Fine Gold on it that means its real. And 1oz of gold right now is worth like $1000... Id gladly take that off your hands.. lol

I think it's not difficult. You can bring it to a reputable jewelry store and ask the staff to help you judge it. Then, you can know it is real or fake.

I forgot to add after you melt it, you will need to bring it to a metal analysis company that can split the metals apart, and analyse the quantity of gold in the clump of metal.

You don't have to melt it to find out if it is real, you can take it to anyone that buys gold, and they can do an electronic, or acid test and tell if it is real, and what karet the Gold is without damaging your jewelry!

Hi Cindy,.417 means that it is 10 karet gold! That means that it is 41.7% pure gold, and the rest is made of other metals. Hope that helps.

Hi Thomas,.925 stands for sterling silver, it is real, but has no gold in it. It is worth something if you wanted to sell it, but not much compared to Gold.

Could be a religious ring. The star could represent the crown of the virgin Mary in heaven. M may stand for Mary.

On Father's Day I Purchased A Pre-engagement Ring For My Significant Other From A Local Jewelery Store. The Ring Appears To Be Yellow Gold, However I Forgot To Ask. My Man Likes It A Lot, So What Should I Do?

The first thing you can do is get a small magnet. Touch the magnet to your jewelry. If the magnet picks up the piece, then it is not gold. If this happens, it is a result of the magnet being attracted to the base metals in your piece. If this does happen, then your piece is not gold.

You can also bring it to a local jewelry store or pawnshop and ask them to acid test it for you. All that entails is for the jeweler to make a small scratch on the inside of the ring deep enough to scratch through any plating that may be on there, and for them to apply a drop of acid to the ring. If the reaction is green, then the peice is not gold. If the reaction is clear and nothing happens, then your ring is gold.

The jewelry may also scratch your ring against a chalky-substance enough to drop acid over the scratch marks. Three types of acid will be dropped on the scratched-off gold. The first will most likely be 10k, 14k and 18k (can go up to 22k if needed) to see which karat the acid eats through. Whatever karat the acid does not eat through, the piece is either that karat or heigher in gold percentage.

It's a relatively simple and painless process that will give you your answer immediately. If you need more inforation about gold testing or other jewelry related articles, please visit www.rokstok.com .

This stamps refers to the gold karat of your bracelet..417 means that your piece is 41.7% gold and 58.3% some other alloy. In terms of karat, it means that it is 10k gold.

If you have other jewelry that you're confused about, here's a breakdown of the stamps:

.417=10k gold
.585=14k gold
.750=18k gold
