How Could U Tell If Jewelery Is Real ...
FYI

No. Gold isn't attracted to magnets at all. I have gold jewelry and none of it is whatsoever attracted to magnets. How do i know it's gold? had it checked by a jeweler. Also, i have a gold covered earring the area that has the gold on it does not attract to magnet, but the area near the clasp that doesn't have gold attracts to the magnet. This proves that GOLD DOES NOT HAVE MAGNETIC ATTRACTION.=D

I have no idea who was the idiot who posted for you to "melt it down"...The weblink he included is non existant.....(wonder why)
Most jewelry stores will be happy to test(chemically) your ring for purity, all that will result is a small spot where the jeweler rubs it on the test stone.

On Father's Day I Purchased A Pre-engagement Ring For My Significant Other From A Local Jewelery Store. The Ring Appears To Be Yellow Gold, However I Forgot To Ask. My Man Likes It A Lot, So What Should I Do?

The 417 is the European mark for 10ct gold.

If it was 18ct gold, at 5oz which =is 4.55 oz Troy, the shop was only ripping you off by about $4900.....18 ct gold is .750 pure.....gold at $1200 per Troy oz......Hope you didnt sell!, If you want to sell gold, take it to a reputable jeweler!

Just because its stamped 10k or other dont mean its real. you can buy a stamp or clasp with 10k,14k
you see this in the biger citys people will go to the dollar store buy fake gold neckless and put a 10k or 14k clasp on it and pass it off for real gold. but here is a trick to expose the fake stuff.
Take a lighter run the gold under the flame if it turns colors its fake, real gold you wont see colors.

Can anyone tell me how to find out if My chain I come across with GHR stamped on it is real gold or not? It don't stick to magnet so its at least gold plated. Does anyone know about these chains? Thanks.

Take it to a local jeweler. Pawn shops don't have the professional training. I took a piece of jewelry to a pawn shop once and they told me it was gold filled. I took it to one of my local jewelers. It was solid 14k gold and was appraised for $1000 and I have the certificate of the appraisal. Never ever take your jewelry to a pawn shop.

Sorry but your 925 stands for Silver. So what you have is a sterling silver piece with gold overlay (gold over the silver, not a true solid gold piece. Hope this helps you out some.

I hate people that don't bother to read through all of the previous posts and just automatically ask "Which test works to see if I have real gold?" or "How do I tell if my gold is real?". Quit being lazy. Go back and read the billion other answers and suggestions!

Well, can't see the piece here, but I do know that jewelry with PD on it often means it was crafted with Palladium. Not to mean that your piece is not gold, but that's a signifier that it might be a mixed metal.
