DealBook: Is That It for Financial Crisis Cases?

Aug 13, 2012 Full story: FiveThirtyEight 17

Last week turned out to be a good one for Goldman Sachs . The Justice Department closed a criminal investigation of the firm and its chief executive, Lloyd C. Blankfein , and the firm disclosed that the Securities and Exchange Commission had decided not to pursue a civil fraud case related to a subprime mortgage deal.

Though Democrats are hammering Paul Ryan as the bringer of Medicare's doom, the Republican vice presidential candidate is far more popular among seniors than he's given credit for.

Same goes for women. And independents.

Surveys conducted shortly before Mitt Romney's VP roll-out show Ryan actually polls fairly well among all three of these groups. And while Democrats claim to be ecstatic at Romney's choice -- they say he's an easy target, and they've already gone to town portraying him as "extreme" -- the bookish lawmaker from Janesville, Wis., could end up bringing more votes to the ticket than he turns away.

A recent Rasmussen poll showed that 31 percent of likely senior voters gave Ryan a "very favorable" rating, compared with 21 percent of all legal-age voters giving him that rating. Just 16 percent of seniors gave him a "very unfavorable" rating.

OK, you are correct, but do you really think Bush II or Romney would take on the Banks. Who do you think runs this world? If you can answer name names.

Keep dreaming Dumbo - Fox News? Last week, Fox News was no good to you, since it had Obama ahead of Romney by 9 points - now you like them?

What a lying sack of chit you are Dumbo!

"Mitt Romney picking Paul Ryan as his running mate may have sparked new interest in his campaign and invigorated the Republican base, but more Americans than not have a less-than-stellar opinion of the Wisconsin congressman.

A new USA Today/Gallup Poll found that 42% see Ryan as a “fair” or “poor” choice, compared with 39% who rate him as “pretty good” or “excellent.”

"Americans don't believe GOP presidential contender Mitt Romney hit a home run with his choice of Paul Ryan as a running mate, a new USA TODAY/Gallup Poll finds, with more of the public giving him lower marks than high ones."

Bush & Obama (bush II) sided with the Banks and made them even bigger. What a huge Mistake! All using Tax Payer Money while the average Taxpayer was wilting.

All I can say right now is that we know for a FACT that Obama is in the Pocket of WALL STREET/BANKS.

Will Romney be the same way? That's a good and fair question....

I doubt he wants or would let banks become Bigger. The difference between Obamabush and Romney is that ROMNEY Understands this is a fundamentally unstable situation and his excellent business sense tells him this must be fixed or we're all still on shaky ground.

Obama on the other hand claims he "fixed" it with the corrupt "Dodd-Frank" bill that is strangling the consumer and regular business while giving all the advantages over to the Larger Super Banks and Crony Businesses like Obama's GE. The industry is playing Obama like a flute and he loves it.

The 1 thing we know for certain is that Obama has been as BAD or WORSE than the wretched Bush on all the big issues that have been sinking this country. We need to shed Obama like a bad habit.

You sure are stuck on stupid. I am aware of the FOX poll, and I am familiar with their internals and those of all the left wing polls. I have told you many times that the FOX POLL is to registared voters, not the more accurate way like Rassmussen of using Likely Voters. The rest will change after labor day to Likely Voters like they always do to try and maintain a semblance of credibility for their companies after 8 months of carrying Obama water.

No surprise here.

The Dems have been in bed with Wall Street since 1992 when Billy brought Rob't Rubin onto his WH staff and later Sec. of Tresury.

Rubin sold Clinton on the repealing Glass-Steagal which played a major part in the 2008 collapse.

In 2008 WS gave money to Obama $72 to $28 for McCain.

The DOJ is still kicking tha can down the road as it petains to Obama bundling crony and former Dem sen. n' govr Jon Corzine.

The Dems are still in bed with WS.

This story is truly said, especially since Blankfein literally came out and admitted he did some of the most unethical and risky of deals/things. Why is it, every time our Gov't sues a company for unethical practices or illegal ones, the Gov't GETS PAID the settlement money, and the consumers, the ones that had the wrong done to them, never get to see a penny?????? Sickens my stomach. This whole story just sickens my stomach. Blankfein should go.
